6 Best Ps1 Horror Games That You Should Know Update 04/2024

Best Ps1 Horror Games

Prepare to play the best PS1 horror games of all time by doing your best Thriller dance moves.

Nintendo’s consoles have always been pretty happy and good for families, but Sony has made some scary-good games before. The PS1 is still full of blood, guts, and gore, and this powerful machine gave us some of the best survival horror games ever made.

We’ve already talked about the best PS2 horror games of all time, but our readers want to know which are the best PS1 horror games of all time.

It was hard to choose, but I’ve put together a list of 15 of the scariest games for the console so you can hide behind the couch.

Join us as we go into the misty church yard and lift the lid of the coffin… ARRRGGGGGHHHHH!

Chaos Break

Chaos Break

Chaos Break is the first game on this list of the best horror games ever made for the PS1. There doesn’t seem to be anything in the horror world as scary as a bloodshot eye…

…well, maybe a mutant worm like the one in the picture below or the weirdo at Number 13!

Chaos Break is a survival horror brawler game that looks and feels like an abandoned Half-Life lab. Players take control of two characters who have to figure out what happened to a coworker.

It turns out that the building is now full of weird parasitic aliens… It wasn’t going to be something easy and simple to set up, was it?

In addition to aliens, mutated scientists and robots are always trying to kill the player. Your job is to get information while killing hordes of enemies and taking things from their bodies to stay alive.

This is a good place to start if you want to find a game that is both scary and great.

Echo Night

Echo Night is the first game in a series of games that are very popular. We talked about the last game in the series, Echo Night: Beyond, on our list of PS2 horror games, but the first game in the series, which came out in 1998, was where all the bloodshed began.

Horror games are always scarier when you see the world through the character’s eyes, and this one is no exception.

Some objects can take players to different parts of the past, kind of like how the Port Keys in Harry Potter could do that.

The goal of the game is to do tasks that get rid of ghosts and pick up the astral pieces they leave behind.

There are strange stones that make anyone who touches them possessed, scary ghosts, and different endings that depend on how well you do in the game. If there was a recipe for a scary game, that’s probably what it would be.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

Resident Evil 3 Nemesis

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis is the 13th best PS1 horror game of all time, according to this list.

I’ve only played the first two games, but I couldn’t wait any longer to talk about Resident Evil. As a kid, these games always gave me the creeps, and now that zombies are one of the scariest things on TV or in movies, the Resident Evil back catalogue is even more popular and in demand.

The Wight Walkers might have made life hell for Westeros, but The Nemesis could have ripped him apart. For crying out loud, this guy makes Pyramidhead look like a soft toy.

Yes, folks, there’s enough blood and guts in Resident Evil 3 for everyone. It’s one of the most action-packed survival horror games going and sees players mashing the fire button in a bid to survive all manner of sticky situations.

The Nemesis seems to just run after you sometimes, and it often tries to eat you. The brute is huge and always makes you feel like you’re going to die whenever he’s around.

Players’ choices affect which ending they see. We love games where we can change how we play to see different results, and everything else about this game is perfect except for its length. I wish the game was longer, but I guess we can’t have everything.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare

If some of the creatures from Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare came to my house, I think I’d just grab a bag of biscuits and leave right away.

As with many of the best horror games for the PS1, players can choose between two characters. Carnby is a brawler with a gun who shoots first and never asks why, while Aline is more of a brainbox. She thinks things through and uses her wits to stay alive.

Sorry, Aline. I know what I’d do if I were thrown in with reptilian monsters that came from the centre of the earth! One of those guns, please!

In the World of Darkness, the creatures of darkness don’t like light very much. I guess there isn’t much of it where they’re from, so I can see why they don’t like it…

You can kill demons and find secrets hidden in the dark by using flashlights, light switches, and weapons that have been changed and fused with magnesium and phosphorus. It’s also pretty cool that 3D shadows show up on 2D objects.

Even though it’s not part of the main Alone in the Dark series, this is one of my favourite scary console games. If my brain wasn’t so jumpy, I might be able to solve Aline’s puzzles without having to go to the bathroom…

Koudelka

Koudelka

Koudelka is the 11th best PS1 horror game of all time, according to this list. It’s a classic SNK game that horror fans and RPG fans must have.

RPG? Did I say that?

Koudelka is different from most of the other horror games on this list because it lets you explore as well as scare yourself shi… I mean, be scary.

All of the battles are done in the traditional turn-based style of RPGs, where the players either attack or get beat up by tough monsters.

Strangely, this game takes place in Wales, UK. It’s not an American town or a Japanese city. It’s the rainy country of Wales, which isn’t too far from where I live. The people who made the game even spent some time there, presumably to see how scary it really is…

Join Koudelka Issant and her friends as they explore a haunted monastery and uncover dark mysteries and secrets from the past that should have stayed hidden…

… At this point, if I could have added a sound effect to scare you, I would have done it.

Silent Hill (1999) – One of the best PS1 Horror Games

Silent Hill is probably one of the survival horror games that people know the most about. It was made by the legends at Konami, who also put it out. This is the first game in the Silent Hill series.

One of the most famous game series in the horror genre. Everyone agrees that the Silent Hill series is one of the most important in the horror game genre.

The first part of the game starts with the main character, Harry Mason. Harry just got out of a bad car accident. He crashed the car while looking for his daughter Cheryl, who had run away.

Harry makes it to Silent Hill. Silent Hill is a ghost town covered in snow and surrounded by thick fog. Even though the town looks like it has people living in it, Silent Hill is also home to some scary monsters that roam the streets.

If you want to find your daughter and get out alive, you’ll have to use all your smarts and survival skills.
