Gamers don’t like the mobile games market because it’s mostly known for its “predatory” gacha games and cheap licenced games that aren’t worth the money. But there are a lot of great games on iOS, including long-time favourites and new games that change the way we think about mobile games.

It isn’t hard to find RPGs on iOS. The best ones use the platform in a way that helps them. Games in this genre tend to be long, and that’s what makes them so great. It’s easy to jump in, do a few quests, and then you’ll have a lot of things to do again.
Final Fantasy 7
The game Final Fantasy 7 is thought to be one of the best of all time by some people. It has a long, interesting story, a lot of epic battles, and a lot of interesting places. This is the best game in the Final Fantasy series. On iOS, it’s a big deal that you can even play it at all.
In this version, the touch controls seem to work very well. Using touch controls to move around the small environments is also easy because the game is turn-based and menu-based.
The Banner Saga
The Banner Saga is a modern version of a tactical RPG that puts a lot of emphasis on player choice. At times, the game is like a “choose your own adventure story,” following your choices as you lead Vikings through war, famine, and near-death. The game is called “Radar.”
Game here is story and immersion, which is the name of the game. The Banner Saga is an RPG that doesn’t follow typical RPG rules, like looting, buying, and selling. The game even stops you from loading a save if you’re defeated in a fight. All of this is to make you feel like you’re part of your tribe as a whole, rather than just one person. The first game in the series, The Banner Saga, is a great place to start. The series spans three games.
When Fate/Grand Order came out, it was made by Sony but PlayStation had nothing to do with it. It was based on the Fate/Stay Night visual novel series that started in 2004. Turn-based combat like in other mobile RPGs. Pulling gacha rolls to get new characters and weapons.
When you play Fate/Grand Order, you don’t play a single character or even control a party. Instead, you play as a “Master,” and you must lead an entire group of adventurers, including knights, magicians, mages, and more, into battle and on adventures. Who you take into battle and on adventures is up to you.
Darkest Dungeon has a reputation for being very hard, and it’s right. Darkest Dungeon is a roguelike where your characters die for good. It’s a great game for mobile because it doesn’t let your characters die. In this game, you can quickly set up a party and then go straight into a dungeon to fight in turn-based mode.
This game is all about where you want to be. When the game is in 2D, the fights happen in a line between your party and your enemies. People’s stats will be partly based on where they are placed. This includes their chances to hit or get hit with sickness or injury.
Neverwinter Nights is another example of a classic role-playing game making its way to the iPhone or iPad, and it turns out to be a lot of fun. This version of the game is called the Enhanced Edition. It has better graphics and a lot of free DLC that you can get.
Neverwinter Nights is set in the D&D universe, so the story is very complex. First-time players might not be able to keep up with it all at first. But with a 100-hour campaign and a lot of player choice that has real consequences, it’s worth giving the game a try, even if you don’t like the fantasy setting.
Chroma Squad is a tactical RPG where you run a TV studio that makes a Power Rangers-like show. Part of the game is managing the studio, like setting up schedules and buying new equipment. The majority of the game is about the funny story and set-piece battles.
It doesn’t matter how it looks or what the game is about. Chroma Squad has a deep but simple battle system that’s great for iOS. It’s up to you to take a team of four (later five) of your Power Rangers out into the field and change their abilities and weapons. You can use them in any way you want. Yes, there are even fights between giant robots and monsters that are much bigger than them.
In Fantasian, beautiful dioramas like the one you see above aren’t the only thing. They’re the norm. Everything in this huge JRPG is beautiful or even better than the last time you played it. Most Final Fantasy fans will agree that this game is worth playing. Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of Final Fantasy, led the development.
Everywhere you look, you can see Sakaguchi’s influence. He made everything from the characters who are sad and wide-eyed to the strategic battles and classical themes. There are a lot of awards that have been given to Fantasian, and for good reason. We hope it will be available on more than just Apple Arcade in the future, so more people can play it. If you have an Apple device, Applle Arcade is still a good place to go.
Chrono Trigger ($10)
There is now a version of the SNES game on iOS! Chrono Trigger was made by Yuki Horii (Dragon Quest), Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), and the people who made Final Fantasy, and now it has better graphics and new songs. You play as the young hero, Cronos, who goes on a mission to save Marle, a girl who has been sent through a dimensional rift made by Lucca, Cronos’ friend. The Telepod was made by Lucca. That’s not true. You come back four centuries earlier and have to go back and forth through time to save Marle. With more than 50 different “Tech” combos, you can fight monsters, explore dungeons, and unleash special “Tech” moves.
Vampire’s Fall: Origins
This free-to-play 2D RPG looks a lot like Diablo 3. It has turn-based combat. You play as a member of the militia who is ready to protect the village of Vamp’Ire from the threat of the Witchmaster, a dark-magic being who wants to attack. You can choose your bloodline, change the outcome of a conversation by making different choices in dialogue, and collect more than 150 weapons and pieces of armour in the game’s open world. And a story that will keep you interested. There’s even in-game chat and PvP fights, too.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ($10)
One of the best role-playing games of all time is now available on mobile phones and tablets. Knights of the Old Republic came out during the golden age of Star Wars games, and it is still a favourite today. You play as a person who doesn’t have a name and is haunted by weird dreams. To become a Jedi and fight for either the light or dark side of the force, the player must learn about their past. BioWare made the game, so you can expect a great story, lots of interesting choices, and a lot of great characters. Even if you play it for the hundredth time or the one hundredth time, it’s still worth it.
