7 Best Mac FPS Games That You Should Know Update 04/2024

You just want to shoot something sometimes. Or many things. First-Person Shooters (FPS) let us do that without leaving the comfort of our own homes.

Even though macOS doesn’t have all the newest and best shooters, we’ve always had a good selection to choose from. We did a list of the best Mac FPS games more than a year ago, so it’s time to take a look again.

If you like to shoot things, we have something for you here, whether you want a realistic shooter with a lot of graphics for your M1 Macbook Pro or a simple shoot-em-up for your M1 Macbook Air.

Metro: Exodus

Metro Exodus

Welcome to life after a nuclear war. Monsters that have changed and bandits on the move now live in Moscow. Metro Exodus is the game for you if you want to shoot mutants while travelling across the country on a train.

In Metro Exodus, the scenery is beautiful. This game has a beautiful snowy setting and a sandbox mode, which makes for some enchantingly immersive moments. With the deadly mutants and the freezing cold, it creates an atmosphere like no other of a post-apocalyptic Russia.

This game’s combat is a mix of gunfights and sneaking around, which is a traditional and fun way to fight. But this first-person shooter has a twist. Throughout the story, you will have to make important decisions that can change what happens to your friends. If you aren’t careful about what you do, people will die.

Metro Exodus is a great choice if you like FPS games with a story.

Borderlands 2

It’s clear that Borderlands 2 is the best game in this series, with what may be the best mix of shooting and looting. That’s probably why it still has more players at the same time than any other Borderlands game, even the newer Borderlands 3.

The Borderlands series is known for combining FPS gameplay with RPG mechanics in a way that works well, and Borderlands 2 just got it right. Here, you can kill people and take their stuff to get experience points and new skills. There are enough features to keep you busy in the huge world that is all yours. The game also lets up to four people play together, and it goes without saying that it’s much more fun with friends. Borderlands 2 isn’t quite as advanced as Destiny 2, but it can still be fun to play with other people.

One last thing… Borderlands 2 is also very pretty, with a graphic novel style that will hold up well over time. Aspyr did a great job with the Mac version of the game, so most people will be able to play it, even those with MacBook Airs.

Counter Strike: Global Offensive

Counter-Strike Global Offensive

I’ll let you off the hook if you don’t know the name, because most people just write “CS: GO” because they don’t want to waste time typing it and want to get to the action.

CS: GO is an online tactical first-person shooter with content from the original Counter-Strike, like updated versions of classic maps, as well as new maps, characters, and game modes.

The game has the most competitive online multiplayer, with even pros from the eSports circuit taking part. CS:GO has cross-platform multiplayer for both Windows and macOS, so don’t worry that players may have moved on to something newer after all these years. Still, CS:GO is one of the most-played games on Steam.

One last thing… Be careful though, CS:Multiplayer GO’s mode is full of players who have played for thousands of hours, and it takes a lot of practise to get good at it. On the other hand, it works great on macOS, even on our test machine, an M1 MacBook Air.

BioShock Remastered

BioShock might be one of the best games in the whole series. Unlike BioShock Infinite, this game takes place in Rapture, which is said to be a beautiful underwater city. This game’s story is one of my favourites, and I can say with certainty that the real ending made me cry like a grown man.

In addition to having a great story, this game also has great fights. Sure, it can feel slow and awkward compared to newer games, and sometimes strange bugs pop up while you’re playing. But there aren’t many games where you can set something on fire and kill it with bees. A truly amazing thing to do.

With its remastered graphics, the original BioShock game can now be played in HD quality.

P.S. : Be kind to the little sisters.

Fortnite

Fortnite

Battle Royale games are still very popular, and Epic Games’ Fortnite is still the best of them. Even though it is not a first-person shooter, it is the most popular shooter in terms of how many people play it, so we thought it should be on our list. Yes, if a game is fun enough, we’ll break the rules.

Fortnite is a free-to-play game that puts you in the middle of 100-player PvP battles on a big map. You can kill or be killed, collect resources to build shelters, and get weapons and ammo to kill everyone else again.

Fortnite has both solo and team modes and hits all the usual buttons for a shooter. Fortnite is the game to play if you want to try out the whole Battle Royale thing.

One last thing… Apple and Epic Games are still fighting a deadly war, so Fortnite hasn’t been updated in a while and no longer works with Windows for cross-platform multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

The Call of Duty series doesn’t need an introduction, and Black Ops is the latest game in the series that can be played on a Mac. Black Ops II or Call of Duty Ghosts could come out in the future. Black Ops is definitely one of the best games for the Mac system. It is a first-person shooter game with an interesting (but short) story mode and a multiplayer mode with lots of options, expansions, and extra content for everyone.

Left 4 Dead 2

Left4Dead 2

Even though it came out in 2009, Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 is still a great first-person shooter game. Left 4 Dead 2 has almost no reason to exist in single-player mode, but in multiplayer mode, this zombie-based shooter is still such a masterpiece that thousands of people play it every day.
