16- Carol (2015)
This film, set in the 1950s, was nominated for about 25 different awards. Originally published in 1952 as The Prince of Salt, Patricia Highsmith’s novel serves as the inspiration for this film.
Phyllis Nagy began writing the script in 1997 but it never saw the light of day due to a variety of reasons. The film stars Cate Blanchett, who is charming and loving, and Rooney Mara, who is gifted.
Even in New York, it was illegal for lesbian couples to be open about their relationship at the time. Add a woman who has been through a difficult divorce to the mix, as well as a younger, aspiring photographer who has been in a rut in her personal life.
There’s more to this story than her ex-threats husband’s to reveal her lifestyle and use it against her in a custody battle. She’s already made mistakes and made mistakes before.
15- Ana e Vitoria (2018)
The movie is about the beginning of a relationship between a real-life Brazilian music duo named Anavitória. Ana Clara Caetano and Vitoria Falcao star as opposites who attract in this romantic comedy.
The film is in Portuguese with English subtitles and features music from their second album, O Tempo e Agora (Now and Now).
Initially, it appears to be a music video, but it quickly transitions into them meeting for the first time. The story is light-hearted and entertaining, and it makes good use of social media.
This is a heartwarming love story told in a realistic but endearing manner. Their journey together was marked by the ups and downs of being in separate romantic relationships with other people at the same time.
14- Below Her Mouth (2016)
Natalie Krill and Arika Linder star in this Canadian drama as two Toronto women who meet by chance and begin a frenzied relationship. There are more erotic scenes in this film than in most of the others.
One of the women recently ended a relationship, while the other has been in a relationship with a man for four years. They come from very different socioeconomic backgrounds, which may cause their romance to fizzle out quickly. This story is ready for conflict as soon as you throw in one or two more problems.
13- Duck Butter (2018)
One is overly concerned with safety and is a control freak. A second person, who is unencumbered, goes after whatever she wants, all the time. Both are aspiring artists, one an actor and the other a singer.
Is it possible for a single event, even a bad one, to alter the course of your life? How long would it take to condense and experience a whole relationship in a single night?

Is it going to last for a full day? Is there an end to the story? Or, do old habits die hard enough to thwart the emergence of a new romantic relationship? How long can two people stay committed to each other if they promise to have sex every hour?
12- Elisa & Marcela (2019)
Natalia de Molina and Greta Fernández star in this black-and-white Spanish film. This is based on the true story of a 1901 marriage between two women. They were Spain’s first openly gay couple.
The story of how they did it and what happened as a result is fascinating. The question is, however, at what cost? Is it really worth it to fight for someone you love in front of a nation that despises you? Is it really worth it after all they’ve gone through?
11- The Feels (2017)
The Feels unquestionably elicits all of these emotions in listeners. The film, which stars Constance Wu and Angela Trimbur, is an emotional rollercoaster set during a bachelorette party.
What could be worse than getting high and accidentally telling your closest friends about your darkest secrets? It’s a mystery even to your future bride-to-be. More hilarity can now pour out of the cracks this creates.
It’s a fine line that director Jenée LaMarque walks when showing something so upsetting that you don’t want to watch it any longer, but you’re compelled to. When it comes to outrageous behavior, though, the character Helen goes to a whole other level. You’ll adore her as much as I did.
10- Growing Up Coy (2016)
To allow their transgender 6-year-old daughter to use the female restroom at school, a Colorado family had to file a civil rights complaint. Because of this, Colorado was the first state to provide legal protections for transgender people. Other states followed suit.
Reviews praised Eric Juhola’s film, noting how timely it is and how well it humanizes transgender people.
In this short film, the family is followed over the course of a few years as they struggle to deal with their sudden notoriety. Almost every facet of their lives were affected by their legal battle.
9- Loving Annabelle (2006)
It follows Annabelle, a senator’s daughter who has been expelled from both high schools in Katherine Brooks’ romantic drama. She’s now in an all-girls private Catholic school, where she falls head over heels in love with her poetry teacher right off the bat.
While her mother appears to be trying to hide her, Annabelle is not Catholic, sports a nose ring, and has strong feelings about donning her Buddhist beads.
Being expelled from two previous schools, Annabelle quickly bonds with her new poetry teacher, whom she relentlessly pursues for the rest of her academic career.
8- Mater (2017)
Director Pablo D’Alo Abba made this film in Argentina, based on the play Wind in the Violin. Tamara Kiper, Marina Bellati, Inda Lavalle, and Lautaro Perotti are among the film’s notable supporting players.
A couple decides that having a child will help their relationship grow. While a lesbian couple could do this in a variety of ways, they opt for an unconventional approach.
When the donor’s mother, who is notoriously micromanaging, learns the truth, their relationship is put to the test. Is there a difference between family by blood and family by choice?
7- The Perfection (2018)
Richard Shepard directs and Nicole Snyder, Eric C. Charmelo and Shepard write the screenplay. This film features Allison Williams, Logan Browning, and Steven Weber as the main actors.

5- 3 Generations (2015)
A transgender film rather than a lesbian film, 3 Generations, also known as About Ray, is the focus of the film. Director Gaby Dellal and writers Nikole Beckwith and Dellal collaborated on this gripping film.
This film features Elle Fanning as Ray, a teenage boy who is beginning the process of transitioning from female to male six years after discovering his true gender identity. Naomi Watts plays the mother, Susan Sarandon plays the lesbian grandmother, and Sam Trammell plays Ray’s father.
4- The Tree of Blood (2018)
A young couple decides to discuss and write down their shared family histories in this contemporary Spanish drama. Finally, dark truths about the past and present come to light.
In some cases, the tales intertwine and flow together like fine wine; in other cases, they end up sounding like a failed relationship. There’s a connection with the Russian mafia as well.
3- Floating (2015)
Julia C. Kaiser wrote and directed the film Floating, also known as The Raft, which was shot in Germany. Despite mixed reviews, this film manages to be both entertaining and educational at the same time.
The film stars Julia Kiser and Anna Konig as a bride-to-be and her bachelorette party guests. Everything goes wrong for both of them, and they have to face their demons from the past if they ever want to move on again.
2- Freeheld (2015)
Julianne Moore and Ellen Page star in this film directed by Peter Sollett Freehled and written by Ron Nyswaner. This is based on Cynthia Wade’s 2007 short film Freeheld, which is also called Freeheld.
A terminal cancer diagnosis was made for Lieutenant Laurel Hester of the New York City Police Department. As long as she lived, Laurel planned to leave her pension to her female partner. When the county said no, she went to court and appealed the decision numerous times until it was finally overturned.
They meet, they fall in love, they get married, they have children, and they spend the rest of their lives together. Who says a person’s sexual orientation matters when it comes to dealing with death and finances?
1- Margarita with a Straw (2014)
Margarita with a Straw was shot in India and New York and directed by Shonali Bose and written by Bose and Nilesh Maniyar. Sayani Gupta portrays Kalki, a young blind woman with cerebral palsy, in the film.
When the police start using tear gas on the crowd during a protest, Laila uses her wheelchair to carry Kalki, and the two end up meeting by chance. In the course of caring for each other, their friendship blossoms into something more as they become more than just friends.
Making decisions about relationships can be difficult, especially if close family members aren’t there to help you through them. There are always problems when a new character is introduced.
It’s amazing how many challenges these two strong women have to overcome in order to be fiercely independent both individually and as a couple. As Laila and Kalki do, it forces you to reevaluate your own life and find a way to overcome your challenges. That’s the power of a well-made film.
