The Madden NFL video game series that we love today is based on the 1988 John Madden Football game, which we still play today. Each year, there are new games in the series. They try to update the roster and add new features that make the game better and more fun for the most recent version.
When it comes to Madden games, their formula doesn’t change as much as the FIFA games do. Given that it is based on the National Football League, there isn’t much room for variation in what the game is. However, a few times over the years, the game’s game modes have been restructured with new modes and major changes. It’s based on those things, so here are the best and worst things about this franchise.
Best – Madden NFL 2003
At the time that Madden NFL 2003 came out, it was thought to be one of the most realistic sports games that had ever been made. One of the best things about this game is that it has an arcade-style gameplay that keeps things moving quickly and doesn’t slow things down.
This game also has a better tactical style of play that lets people plan out their strategy instead of just running around. This creative streak was what really made the show a hit with critics.
Worst – Madden NFL 21
There are only so many times that people can let it go that the Madden NFL series hasn’t changed much in a long time. This game doesn’t have any new ideas because it’s basically the same game as the year before, just with a new name.
If things don’t get messed up in the middle of a match, it’s still a good thing to finish the game. It’s the lack of originality that makes this post seem so bad.
Best – Madden NFL 2002
People didn’t waste time on things that didn’t matter and kept things simple in this post. Madden NFL 2002 is a fun game to play even though there aren’t many surprises in store. The game is simple and easy to use, so it’s still fun to play.
In this game, players can bet on their team to defend well and use this to score. All in all, a good mix of team tactics helps this title stay in your mind.
Worst – Madden NFL 06
By the time this game came out, consoles had made enough progress to allow for good graphics. Because of this, Madden NFL 06 has players who look like they’re having a good time. The character models are stuck with silly expressions.
A lot of people find the game’s soundtrack to be boring and drab. It can’t set the right mood for a big game like this. The lack of technical improvements makes this game less fun than it might have been.
Best – Madden NFL 2005
A fun title doesn’t hurt, no matter how many times it’s been used before. This time, the focus is on the offensive side of things, which keeps the interest going. This is a good thing because the game doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s a good thing.
Basically, Madden NFL 2005 keeps the fun parts of previous games, but it doesn’t make any obvious attempts to hide that it isn’t unique. It may not be a new game, but the games are still fun because of the hard-hitting nature of the gameplay.
Best – John Madden Football
List: The best place to start this list is in 1988, when the franchise itself was born. John Madden Football doesn’t look very good today, and it’s not likely that anyone will want to play the original game again soon. For its time, this game was great.
There was 11 on 11 football in John Madden Football when it first came out. This is the same size as a real football team. When the first game came out, technology wasn’t as advanced as it is now, so it didn’t look like a real football game. There’s a good reason why there was a second one.
Worst – Madden NFL 18
Starting with the bad things, we’ll look at Madden 18. When it comes down to it, Madden 18 wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. To start with, this game added the Longshot story mode, which many fans liked. For the football part, the gameplay was similar to other games and didn’t fall back in any way.
That’s all it did. Incorporated a new game mode that didn’t involve a lot of football play and used the same formula as the last game. It’s because Madden 18 didn’t fix any major problems and even if it looked like it was an updated version of Madden 17, it’s on the lower end of the list of games for the franchise.
Madden NFL 17 – 83 (2016)
Rob Gronkowski, a teammate of Brady’s, was on the cover of the magazine a year before Brady was. It was at this point that people who had been playing the game for a long time had noticed that the gameplay wasn’t very different.
So, EA Sports tried to make a few changes to make things better, like adding the ground game mechanism to make things more even. They also made the franchise mode a little deeper and worked on the defence. On the other hand, the comments and presentation did not hit the mark.
Madden NFL 13 – 83 (2012)
A few things to keep in mind about this game: It’s the last Madden game for the Wii, and it’s the only one for the Wii U and the PlayStation Vita. The popular EA Trax was gone as soon as it started up, which meant there wasn’t any licenced music. Some fans were disappointed.
Instead, there were a lot of instrumentals on the menus, which turned away people. However, the gameplay was thought to be solid, and a real highlight was the Connected Careers mode, which let players combine Franchise and Superstar mode into one place if they wanted to play both at the same time.
