8 Best Historical Games That You Should Know Update 03/2024

Best Historical Games

It’s history. It’s how time moves. Things that were once. The fact that we as a species are getting worse instead of better. What a great topic to talk about! Especially when it comes to historical games.

There are a lot of good history games out there, but really, there are a lot. Some of them mix up their influences a little, while others are more concerned with how they look than with how accurate they are to history. They’re still valuable period pieces, though.

So! If you’re a history buff who also likes to press buttons quickly and shout at the TV, you’re in luck. Here are the best history games you can play right now. We’ve put them in alphabetical order so that you don’t come at us with pitchforks because we ranked them the wrong way.

Age of Empires II

Age of Empires II

In both history games and RTS games, Ensemble Studios’ journey to the Middle Ages has been a favourite for more than 20 years. It’s been a favourite for everyone. Age of Empires IV came out just a few months ago, but if you’re a fan of the series, you’d be hard-pressed to find anyone who would recommend it to you over the 2019 remaster of the second game in the series. No, it’s not.

This version has added eight more cultures to the original 13 in order to make the total number of civilizations in the game total at 21. One for each century after the birth of Jesus Christ. When the most recent expansion came out a few months ago, the studio that was in charge of remastering it could add even more down the road. If you like strategy games, the Middle Ages, and experiences that give you more time than you can give them, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is worth a try, even if you don’t have a lot of time. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

A lot of people see Valhalla as a bad thing because of its violence, mythology, and season passes, but Ubisoft’s RPG has a lot of truth to it. If anything, the violence in this game has been toned down for today’s audiences. The game’s use of mythology is perfect for how closely the Vikings’ own history and spiritual beliefs were linked. Our guess is that Ragnar Lodbrok spent the Helix Credits that were stolen from him on a pair of shinguards. There’s no proof that he didn’t.

Valhalla, like most Assassin’s Creed games, takes a lot of time to research and write with a lot of care for the stories it tells. People who know a lot about Thor and people who think Thor was invented by Stan Lee in 1962 will both like this game. It comes with the Discovery Tour expansion, which lets you play the game without fighting. Because he wasn’t. To play games that are all about pure fantasy, we have a list of the best RPGs for you.

Call of Duty: World at War

Call of Duty World at War

The Call of Duty series is famous for based on wars that happened and some that may or may not happen based on what space-racing billionaires do today. Call of Duty: World at War, the fifth game in the series, is probably the best one. Black Ops: Cold War, on the other hand, would be a good choice if you played your CoD games well.

This is how the world at war is broken up into two separate campaigns: American and Soviet, Of these, the last one is so much better that we don’t even remember the first one. It’s been 13 years, so give us a break. He is one of the best characters in Call of Duty history. Sergeant Reznov is from the Soviet campaigns and plays a big role in the game’s portrayal of the Battle for Berlin, which is almost the Battle for Europe in its own way. Call of Duty game set in the past? Make this one. Black Ops: Cold War, or Black Ops. We don’t mind. For more games like this, check out our list of the best WW2 games.

Civilization VI

People who like Civ IV and Civ V might be angry that we’re going to play VI instead. Because Civilization is a great game that many people enjoy for different reasons, this is why. For people who are just starting out with strategy games, we say Civ VI. We’re referring to the most modern and easy-to-use Civ game for people who haven’t played one before. It’s not like everyone has played Stellaris 2,000 hours at the same time.

It’s best to read short summaries of each game to figure out which one is best for you. In this game, civilization is very dense and comes with a lot of expansions for each entry. This means that there is a lot of history to go through. Make sure you don’t forget about the bug in Civilization II that made Gandhi drop a lot of nukes.

Crusader Kings 3

CRUSADER KINGS 3

Crusader Kings has a clear winner when it comes to which game is the best in the series. Civilization doesn’t have that. Crusader Kings 3 came out in September 2020, eight years after the last game in the series, which came out eight years after the first one. This means you have a lot of time to get good at Crusader Kings 3. That game could be the main one until 2028.

This is different from a lot of strategy games. In Crusader Kings 3, you’re more likely to make secret illegitimate babies with the Prince of France than you are lining up trebuchets and sacrificing innocent infantry in order to make money in the future. It’s like Game of Thrones, but you’re in charge. It’s wonderful.

Dynasty Warriors

Dynasty Warriors is an interesting series because it’s been going since 1997, started out strong, fell off in the middle, and has seen a resurgence in popularity with its two most recent games. This is why it’s so interesting. There are some things we should tell you about this musou that you should keep in mind.

In the first place, the first game in the series is not musou at all. It’s a fight game. If you think about it, Koei Tecmo celebrated Dynasty Warriors’ 20th anniversary on the same day that Dynasty Warriors 2 turned 20 because it doesn’t think the first game is real. On the other hand, the most recent Dynasty Warriors game, Dynasty Warriors 9, decided to change things up by making the game more like a modern open-world game. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is the only thing that keeps the series in line with itself, and that is because it always talks about the book. You should play Dynasty Warriors 8 or 9 if you want to play a game. This is mostly because it is easier to play them on modern consoles than some older games. But, as with any series with more than a million entries and counting, you can choose any one you want. It will still be about the same time period. Probably.

L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire

Like any game made by Rockstar, L.A. Noire had a lot of pressure on it when it came out in 2011. Early trailers for the game caught people’s attention because of its mix of a quincuncial Rockstar open world and new detective mechanics.

The game’s open-world is what makes it stand out from other historically accurate games. It gives players an amazing representation of post-WWII Los Angeles that captures what the city looked like in the 1940s.

The Brothers In Arms Series

From a game set just after World War II to one set in the middle of it. The first game in the Brothers In Arms series, Brothers In Arms: Road to Hill 30, came out in 2005. It was one of nine games in the series.

The Brothers In Arms series has a lot of historical accuracy in its world design, character models, and gameplay. Impressively, the first game was used in a History Channel show to show how the Nazis invaded Normandy. Sornry to say, but it looks like Brothers in Arms: Furious 4 was cancelled in 2015.
