1. Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
William Harford embarks on a night of sexual exploration after learning about his wife Alice’s fantasies. After a string of encounters that end in failure, he runs into an old friend, Nick Nightingale, who is now a musician and tells him about strange sex parties where he has to play the piano blindfolded in order to get the girl.
The men are all dressed up and wearing masks, while the women are all fresh-faced and attractive. Harford is able to find a suitable costume and attends the celebration. However, when he arrives, he is met with a warning from someone who, despite the mask, recognizes him: he is in grave danger. In the end, he succeeds in freeing himself, but the threats remain.
2. Kill Your Darlings (2013)
Allen Ginsberg is a Columbia University English major in the early 1940s when he learns more than he bargained for. Allen is dissatisfied with the school’s traditional views, and he seeks out colleagues like Lucien Carr, William S. Burroughs, and William S.
William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac were both influential writers. As the future Beat Generation, this group would work together to test the limits of literary experimentation. In spite of this, their appetites and choices lead to more serious offenses that would leave a lasting impression on their lives.
3. Y Tu Mamá También (2001)
Tenoch Iturbide and Julio Zapata, both in their late teens, are restless in Mexico City as their respective girlfriends tour Europe together in preparation for their upcoming college years.
They first meet Luisa Cortes, the twenty-something wife of Tenoch’s cousin Jano, at a lavish family wedding. The couple has just moved to Mexico from Spain. Tenoch and Julio hit it off. Trying to impress Luisa, Tenoch and Julio tell her that they are going on a trip to the best beach in Mexico called la Boca del Cielo (which translates to Heaven’s Mouth), but the trip and the beach don’t exist in real life, as Tenoch and Julio discover.
When Luisa finds out about Jano’s latest marital indiscretion firsthand, she accepts Tenoch and Julio’s invitation to join them on their road trip. This forces Tenoch and Julio to put together a last-minute road trip to a non-existent beach in order to accommodate Luisa. A friend of theirs, Saba, recommends a particular beach, but neither of them are exactly sure where it is. During their road trip, which turns out to be less than peaceful, the three embark on a journey of discovery.
Luisa must make decisions about her immediate future in light of the information she received from Jano and a secret she is keeping. And as they get older, Tenoch and Julio will have to reevaluate their friendship.
4. The Wackness (2008)
Summer of 1994 in New York City: friendships, romance, and coming-of-age. Dr. Luke Shapiro is a recent high school graduate who sells marijuana in exchange for therapy from Dr.
Jeffery Squires. Stephanie, a classmate who is both out of his league and Squires’ stepdaughter, piques Luke’s interest. By July, he’s dating Stephanie and showing her around town with his weed pushcart. After that, things start to get interesting. Luke’s grandparents, Squires and his wife, are also having issues in the background.
5. St. Vincent (2014)
Vincent is a Vietnam veteran with no money and no prospects for the future because of his obstinately hedonistic lifestyle. Situations alter once the son of Vince’s newly acquired adjacent neighbour is in need of childcare and Vince is willing to accept payment. Vincent and Oliver form an unlikely friendship as a result of Oliver’s selfish act. They fulfill many of each other’s needs by helping each other out.
As Vincent teaches Oliver street survival skills and other life lessons, Oliver begins to see Vincent for more than his flaws and eccentricities.. When Vincent’s life takes an unexpected turn for the worse, they discover something positive about one another that no one else has noticed.
6. Brooklyn (2015)
An Irish girl named Eilis Lacey moves to Brooklyn from her native country at the end of 1951. She will have no trouble finding work thanks to the support of Father Flood, a priest from her hometown of Enniscorthy.
Eilis had to leave behind her widowed mother and her dear sister Rose, so the early days were difficult. Seasickness was soon replaced by loneliness and homesickness, two feelings she felt even more acutely because of. Despite this, she gradually manages to find her footing by adapting to her job as a salesgirl, studying bookkeeping at Brooklyn College, and receiving some assistance from both Father Flood and Mrs. Flood.
Owner of the boarding school where she is currently residing: Kehoe Furthermore, Tony, an Italian-American plumber, shows his love for her with adoration and respect.
They end up getting married, but they don’t tell anyone. Eilis returns to Enniscorthy to support her mother morally after a tragedy strikes there. As a result, she finds herself being drawn back to her hometown by its allure, even allowing herself to be wooed by local young man, Jim Farrell.
7. Definitely, Maybe (2008)
Comedy about love: While going through a divorce in Manhattan, Will Hayes’ 10-year-old daughter Maya starts questioning him about his life before he married her mother. Maya is incredibly curious about how her parents met and fell in love, and she’s determined to learn everything she can about it. A young and idealistic aspiring politician from Wisconsin moves to New York City in 1992 to work on the Clinton campaign.
For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics and recounts the history of three very different women he has been romantically involved with. Russell McCormack is Will’s go-to campaign buddy. It’s not just that they share the same political goals; they also have the same kinds of girl problems. Will makes a vain attempt to make his story “PG” for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who he eventually married.
Is Emily, the dependable girl next door, her mother Will’s college sweetheart? What does he think of April, his longtime best friend and confidante? What about the free-spirited but aspirational journalist inside of her? Maya learns the hard way as she puts the pieces of her father’s romantic puzzle together. 8. Prime (2005)
Rafi Gardet, a beautiful 37-year-old photography producer who recently divorced, meets David Bloomberg, a handsome 23-year-old painter who recently graduated from college, in colorful, bustling modern-day Manhattan. Dr. Lisa Metzger, Rafi’s therapist, discovers that her only son David, Rafi’s new lover, is working with Lisa to help Rafi overcome her fears of intimacy.
Their 14-year age difference, vastly different upbringings, and the expectations of David’s traditional mother must all be dealt with by David and Rafi, respectively. After falling in love, the charming couple discovers that their disparate ages and backgrounds lead to plenty of tensions.
In comparison to Rafi, a non-practicing Catholic from a wealthy and broken family who travels in the high-end fashion world, David, a Jewish hip-hop lover and closet painter, lives with his grandparents.
9. Lolita (1997)
In order to teach in the United States, British professor Humbert Humbert moves in with Charlotte Haze’s 14-year-old daughter Dolores (Lolita), to whom he feels an immediate attraction. It’s the only way he can be near the girl, who will turn out to be far too mature for her age, even though he hates her mother.
They embark on a cross-country journey while Humbert is being watched by someone he initially believes to be from the police, in an attempt to hide the fact that they are not just father and daughter. It appears that the man’s intense jealousy, coupled with some guilt over the forbidden romance, is making him increasingly volatile.
10. The Rules Of Attraction (2002)
Camden University. Former Wall Street broker Patrick Bateman has an older brother named Sean. He’s also a drug dealer who owes a lot of money to “fellow” dealer Rupert Guest, as well as a well-known womanizer, as he sleeps with nearly half of the females on campus. Technically, Lauren Hynde is a virgin.
She’s saving up for a trip to Europe with her narcissistic boyfriend, Victor Johnson, who’s left the United States. Victor is also smitten with her sultry roommate Lara. The former Lauren Denton boyfriend Paul Denton is openly bisexual and has feelings for Mitchell Allen, who is seeing Candice to prove his heterosexuality. Sean has a soft spot in his heart for Lauren. Paul has a soft spot in his heart for Sean. Also, it’s possible that Lauren has feelings for Sean.
