7 Best Viking Games That You Should Know Update 03/2024

best viking games

These days, Vikings seem to be in fashion. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla might have set the stage, but the release of Valheim has both struck the match and set the genre on fire at once.

As a gamer, this is one hell of a good year if you like playing as a Scandinavian thief who goes around the world looking for treasure and glory.

On a Viking high, there’s no mead to let yourself go without. Mead? Because it sounds like “need” We’ve put together a list of the best Viking games of all time so that you can get lost in them, whether you want to explore Midgard, Jotunheim, or even more fantastical lands from long ago.

Vikings – Wolves of Midgard

Vikings – Wolves of Midgard

Developer: Games Farm

Publisher: Kalypso Media Digital

Games that are based on Vikings are more likely to be top-down action RPGs. You’re going to see a lot of Dragon Age and Diablo influence in this game. That’s not a bad thing.

Vikings: Wolves of Midgard is one of these games. It’s also one of the best Viking games ever made. It was made by a Slovak company, which added some credibility to the genre.

It feels a lot like Diablo when you play. If you like making characters, this game has a good one. That doesn’t mean the game doesn’t have a lot of replay value, though. A lot of it comes from gimmicks that were actually ahead of their time.

It has a positive rating on Steam and a 66 on Metacritic, which is about right for how it should be played. You can pick this up if you’re bored, but if you want to experience the real Jotunheim and Midgard, we don’t think you should.

Mount and Blade: Warband – Viking Conquest

Developer: Brytenwalda

Publisher: TaleWorlds Entertainment

Even though Mount and Blade: Warband has been out for more than 10 years, the community still loves it. If you want to play with Vikings in single-player and multiplayer, this DLC will help you do that!

You get a cutesy little storyline, something out of the ordinary for what is otherwise a sandbox title, but that’s nothing to write home about. Because this DLC adds so many new things to the world, you’ll want to buy it. You can get a lot of different things for very little money these days. Factions, cities, and characters all added a lot of people in the hundreds.

At the end of the day, Viking Conquest is Mount and Blade with Vikings, but it’s also a game. If you like games like that, you’ll love this DLC. If you don’t, you’re likely to hate it.

For Honor

For Honor

Developer: Ubisoft

Publisher: Ubisoft

For Honor is one of the best-known games with Vikings. It’s not so much a Viking game as it is a game that features Vikings, on account of the lack of meaningful single-player and streamlined multiplayer experience.

For Honor is a Ubisoft game, so you can expect the usual Ubi things right away. Even though the game looks like a typical multiplayer game on the surface, it’s really good when you play with your friends!

Tactical combat is very different from what you’re used to, but it works well for the game. During the game, you’re going to fight your opponents, and it’s going to really feel like that! Besides enemies, For Honor also has characters from other cultures, like Ancient Mandarian and the Japanese Dynasties, who fight each other.

So far, this is only a game with Vikings, but it’s good.

Expeditions: Viking

Developer: Logic Artists

Publisher: THQ Nordic

How can you explain why game developers seem to be so in love with top-down action RPGs and Vikings?

This is another game in that genre, but even I have to admit that it’s a good one. It’s a game that lasts 30 hours, but it has a lot of depth, which is only shown by its turn-based combat.

To be a new chief, you set sail to plunder the West to show off your strength and get more money, so that’s what you do. As you play more, the game’s story gets better.

Expeditions: Viking is a game that many people didn’t know about. It’s a great game. If you’re a fan of RPGs from the mid-2000s, you’ll love this.

Volgarr the Viking

Volgarr the Viking

Developer: Crazy Viking Studios

Publisher: Adult Swim Games

What if we told you there was a great Viking game made in the 1980s? Most people would think I was lying, and they would be right. There is a game called Volgarr the Viking that came out in 2013. It looks like a game from before the 1990s.

In the first place, have you heard of Mario? Second, leave. Because I don’t want you here.

As a side-scrolling game goes, Volgarr the Viking is one of the best indie games out there. The fact that this game is an indie doesn’t mean it’s bad. Adult Swim Games made it, so that should tell you everything you need to know about how good it is.

In the game, Odin has asked you to go on a quest to defeat an evil dragon. That’s all there is to it. It’s a simple experience that does a lot more than it should for a very low price.

Valheim

People didn’t expect Valheim to be a big hit in 2021. It takes players on a brutal journey that is based on Viking culture. You are sent to Valheim, a place where you must learn how to be a Viking in order to live. You must hunt, build, and explore in order to stay alive. In order to make sure each player has a unique experience, each world is made up randomly.

You can go it alone, or you can team up with up to nine other people for some PvE fun. Take a trip through Valheim, and you’ll find new things at every turn. The Meadows are full of beautiful scenery, and the Mountains are filled with icy cold winds. Fill your base with everything you need to get through the day, like defensive structures to keep trolls from destroying your home and a place to make mead for your Viking friends.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

A lot of Assassin’s Creed games do a great job of making history come alive, and Valhalla is no exception. Through Eivor’s eyes, players go on a journey in Valhalla, which is a game about killing. Experience the snowy landscapes of Norway before going to England to build many settlements.

During the late 9th century, Ubisoft does break some of the rules when it comes to what Vikings did. For example, Orlog doesn’t really exist. If you want to learn a lot about this time period while playing a great game, there’s more than enough history to do so.
