1983 was the year Nintendo released its first home video game console, the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was the first one. As much as this system was praised, Nintendo knew that it could do better. So in 1990, the company turned its 8-bit video game system into a 16-bit one and called it the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, which was a big hit.

Known as the SNES, this console sold more than 23.3 million units in North America and more than 49.1 million units around the world. It came with a lot of games that also sold very well, and that’s what we’re going to talk about now.
People bought more SNES games than any other game. We’re going to look at which 10 games sold the most. In case you didn’t know, games in the Mario, Donkey Kong, Zelda, and Street Fighter II series sold very well.
Those are the best-selling SNES games of all time, so here they are.
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong’s Double Trouble!
Dixie Kong and her cousin, Kiddy Kong, went on a crazy mission to save Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong from the evil King K. Rool in the third game in the Donkey Kong Country series. In the game, there were 48 levels, each of which took place in one of eight different worlds. These worlds were made up of factories, forests, and cliffs.
A lot of people gave the game a good review, praising the new graphics and gameplay details, as well as the cool soundtrack.
Donkey Kong Country 3 sold more than 3.5 million copies.
Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
This competitive fighting arcade game found its way to home consoles in 1993, making it the third Street Fighter II game to be released. Yes, we know that the title isn’t clear. Street Fighter II Turbo was the same as the other games in the series, but it had new and better moves.
A lot of people liked the game because it had a classic feel and a lot of strategy in it. It eventually sold more than 4.1 million copies.
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island
Baby Mario and Yoshi work together to save Luigi, who has been taken by Kamek in the prequel to Super Mario World. Because they’re drawn in a hand-drawn style, the two of them are cuter than ever. They go through 48 levels together.
In no time, the game was being talked about for its beautiful art, level design, and gameplay that looked great. It sold more than 4.1 million copies in the end.
The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past
In this Legend of Zelda game, Link went on a new journey to defeat Ganon and save Hyrule from the Dark Lord. It had a top-down view like the original The Legend of Zelda game. In addition, it introduced some of the series’ most important features, like the Master Sword and parallel worlds.
For its graphics and gameplay, A Link to the Past has been called one of the best games ever made. It has been called one of the best games ever made. It sold more than 4.6 million copies, having been shipped with the SNES at times during its production.
Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest
The second Donkey Kong Country game had players go through Crocodile Isle to rescue Donkey Kong, who was kidnapped by King K. Rool like in the first game. Diddy Kong hasn’t been captured like in the third game in the series. Instead, he and his girlfriend, Dixie, go through 52 levels together.
The game got a lot of good reviews from people who said they were impressed with how immersive the series had become. Over 5.1 million copies were sold.
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior
Like the other Street Fighter II game we talked about, this one was made for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System a year before in 1992. Played by people from all over the world, it had them fight against a lot of different international enemies in different stages.
Game: It was praised for its graphics and sound and playability as well as how many times it could be played. It sold more than 6.3 million copies because it came with SNES games for a while.
Argonaut Software worked closely with Nintendo to make game prototypes for the NES and SNES. They asked Nintendo to make a custom graphics chip that could do more advanced 3D processing.
There was a chip called Super FX built into the game’s cartridge, which made Star Fox the first game for the Super Nintendo system to use full polygon graphics. This led to this game being made.
For the 4 million people who bought the game, Star Fox felt like a peek into the future. I was one of them.
Star Fox has a very important place in gaming history. It was named “Best Shooter of 1993” by Electronic Gaming Monthly, has many more games in the series, and has made appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
When Nintendo released their Switch Online service in 2019, Star Fox and its unreleased sequel were also part of the service. We also put them on our list of the best SNES games on the Switch.
So that new gamers can enjoy a piece of gaming history as well as old ones. You and I can go back to when we were kids and play games again.
Donkey Kong Country
Donkey Kong Country was a completely new take on the popular Donkey Kong game series. It had a whole new 3D look for our favourite gorilla.
Rare, a company that makes games, wanted to work with Nintendo in the early 1980s.
Motivated by Nintendo’s rejection of that offer, Rare went on to reverse-engineer the Nintendo Entertainment System in order to make some prototypes that caught Nintendo’s attention and led to them getting the partnership they had hoped for from them.
Nintendo hired Rare to make a game that could compete with games like Disney’s Aladdin, so they could make more money.
Rare wanted to use new technologies that were made possible by their Silicon Graphics workstations to make 3D models.
The risk paid off, selling 9.3 million units and starting a series of games that won awards for Nintendo that would last for years to come.
Super Mario All-Stars
Miyamoto, who made Mario, said that Nintendo should bring the first four Mario games into the 16-bit world.
Taken from Super Mario World, each of the original Nintendo Entertainment System games were completely remade and improved on, just like in the game.
The team worked hard to keep the spirit of the original games, even if that meant leaving in some glitches that felt like they were important to the source material.
The game got a lot of good reviews. This is what AllGame called it: “the absolute pinnacle of the 2D platform genre.”
A perfect compilation of some of their favourite SNES games made 10.5 million people happy. It’s no wonder that Super Mario All-Stars is on the top SNES games of all time list.
Super Mario World
This list is called “Super Mario World.” It’s the last game on the list. A great example of how the SNES made many games even better than they already were
As of right now, Super Mario Bros. is in sixth place on the list of the most popular video games of all time. So it’s clear that Nintendo would have been under a lot of pressure to match that success.
A follow-up is always a dream for fans. Then, you don’t really expect it to blow it out of the water, though.
Maybe that’s not the best way to look at it. Obviously, the original is what it is: an original. Legendary. Set the bar. As for me, Super Mario World just takes things to a whole new level.
If you look at the graphics, the music, the sounds, the gameplay, new mechanics, and new characters, this game is the best. It’s all good!
At 20.6 million copies, it was the best-selling game on the SNES. It’s also on many top lists of all time, including RetroDodo’s best Mario games and my own top 10 of all time. Power Play’s “Game of the Year for 1991” on the Game Boy Advance and the Switch Online Service, as well
So, it looks like we have many reasons to think this is the best game that was made for the Super Nintendo system. It’s also no surprise that this game is number one on this list of the 10 best selling SNES games of all time!
This game is done now. I’ll get back to playing it now. literally… You can only play it on your rg351v right now. First, I remember the sounds of “Yohsi’s Island 1” for a long time.
