On a sweltering summer night, nothing beats a backyard movie party. One of life’s greatest pleasures is savoring a chilled beverage while relaxing under the stars with a group of close friends. You should definitely put it on your bucket list if you haven’t done so before!

I believe that some movies are better suited to the outdoors than others. If you’re searching for some ideas for movies to watch in your backyard, check out this list of my favorite outdoor flicks. When I recommend a movie, I give specific arguments for why I believe you should see it in a public place. Everything here is unique, and there should be something for everyone.

1. The Goonies

The Goonies

In the minds of those of a certain vintage, this film will bring back childhood memories of hot summer days spent riding your bike with your pals and going on adventures, all set to the music of Cyndi Lauper, REO Speedwagon, and The Bangles. At the very least, it brings back memories for me!

One-Eyed Willy’s long-lost riches is sought by Chunk, Mikey, Brandon, and the gang in this famous 1985 film, with the villainous Fratellis in hot chase.

2. The Blair Witch Project

As a result of this, I find this film to be one of the best movies to watch when camping. If you’re watching a movie in your backyard or garden after the sun has gone down and the campfire has died out, every sound you hear will have a new meaning!

Wait till the kids are asleep before you begin watching. If your neighbors have a view of your backyard, you might want to think about them as well!

Is That True? The studio went to considerable measures to keep the cast away from the press during the film’s initial release in order to perpetuate the popular belief that the performers had died.

3. Jaws

Jaws is one of the best movies ever made, and it’s much better on the big screen. Summer blockbusters have become a staple of the moviegoing experience, and this picture is a great example of how to do it right.

It’s a classic that never gets old, thanks to a great tale and a brilliant musical score by John Williams.

4. Star Wars

What Star Wars fan isn’t? Watching merely to view the iconic opening sequence on your outdoor cinema screen is a worthwhile experience in itself.

Grab a bag of popcorn and settle in to see Luke Skywalker and his comrades take on Darth Vader and the wicked Empire.

5. Dunkirk

IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format film stock were used in the production of this 2017 release. Due to its magnificent cinematography and music, the Dunkirk film provides an unbelievable amount of dread.

One of the best war pictures ever filmed, according to many reviews, is the film’s subject matter.

6. Dirty Dancing

So, if you’re looking for a movie to watch with your significant other in the backyard, Dirty Dancing is the one to go with. Patrick Swayze’s dancing skills are undeniable.

It’s set in the summer of 1964 and recalls thoughts of a bygone era. The movie is still worth seeing even if you’re not old enough to remember those times. If you’re a fan of the great outdoors, this is a must-see film.

Is That True? I Was a Teenage Mamba Queen” was nearly renamed “I Was a Teenage Mamba Queen” as the Canadian guards mistook the film for a blue movie because of the title.

7. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

In the backyards of the world, this film has undoubtedly been watched millions of times, and there is a good reason for it: It’s amazing!

Just like the Goonies, the Library of Congress designated this film “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant,” just like the Goonies.

8. Despicable Me

Even though it’s geared toward younger audiences, this video is a big hit with adults as well! Watch Gru as he plots a major robbery, all while dealing with three orphans he didn’t really want to take in..

This film has two sequels and a spin-off Minions feature, so you can plan a series of backyard movie parties this summer to watch them all.

9. Back to the Future

Since its release in 1985, Back to the Future has been shown frequently at public outdoor movie theaters, proving that it has remained relevant over time. No mistake about it, it’s one of the best summers movies out there!

It’s back to the future, with Doc Brown and the Delorean helping Marty McFly travel back in time to meet his mother.

10. Stand By Me

A group of friends set out on a search for a dead corpse in the 1950s, and this film has been rated one of the best summertime movies of all time.

In the words of Rotten Tomatoes, “a nostalgic movie with a quirky streak that nails both Stephen King’s voice and the challenges of growing up” it works so well as a backyard movie.
