10 Best Anime Characters Born In March That You Should Watching Update 04/2024

Anime Characters Born In March

Louis Toms Contributes as a Guest Author (owner of Carolina Comic Geek, a Pinterest board which catalogs birthdays of anime, cartoon, comic, and manga characters).

Friends, we’re glad to have you back!

In this fourth installment of the series, we explore the most notable anime characters born in the month of…

For the sake of this article, I’m only focusing on characters born in March. This is a unique month because of the equinox, which occurs just three times a year. Depending on where you live, this is the time of year when people begin to feel the chill of fall or the warmth of spring. As the start of Japan’s hanami (flower viewing) season, this is the first full month of the year. Several countries in the southern hemisphere, such as Brazil, have just finished their carnival celebrations. March is the only time of the year when Pisceans and Tauruses celebrate their birth anniversaries at the same time.

Astrologers in Western astrology believe that people born under these signs are loyal and patient but also a little bit stubborn and temperamental, according to Western tradition. Characters born in March have several astrological characteristics. There are a lot of similarities between manga and anime character personas. Take a look at our list of the most popular anime characters born this month to see whether you believe me.

To come up with a list of ten standout characters born in March was a mammoth undertaking, as it was with my prior episodes. According to a poll of friends and colleagues, these ten characters are some of the best in the industry. To make things more difficult, I had to make a concerted effort to limit my own biases in order to compile a fair list. I was able to come up with a decent list of anime characters born this month thanks to several heated debates with friends. According to their authors’ birthdays, both male and female characters are eligible for inclusion in this list.

Let me know if I missed any of your favorite March-born anime or manga characters as you read this article. Let me know what you think in the comments section below.

10. Erina Nakiri (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma)

Erina Nakiri

March 23 is my birthday.

Slice of life and shnen anime are full of tsundere waifus and husbandos, but these characters are rarely given much agency beyond their traditional tropes in these shows. Rather than the rule, our tenth entry is a breath of new air.

Erina Nakiri is a Ttsuki Culinary Academy student and a previous member of the Elite Ten Council of the school.

Erina’s superiority complex stems from her background and culinary prowess, which has resulted in few friendships among her contemporaries. When she hears constructive criticism about her cooking or attitude, she becomes enraged because of the collision of these traits. When she’s away from her peers, she’s still a typical adolescent who enjoys reading shjo comics and longs for genuine friendships.

Erina’s transformation from entitled prodigy to heroine in the Food Wars! series is driven by Alice Nakiri and Sma Yukihira.

According to our ranking of the best characters in manga and anime, Erina Nakiri is one of the most popular characters in the genre.

Erina Nakiri is the most popular March-born female anime character, according to MyWaifuList viewer voting.

9. Kayo Hinazuki (Boku dake ga Inai Machi)

The date of my birth is March 2, 1977.

Few anime characters, in my opinion, go as deep as our ninth entry in terms of evoking strong emotions in the viewer.

Satoru Fujinuma’s quest to save the lives of the three victims of a serial killer is sparked by Kayo Hinazuki, a socially awkward high school student.

Kayo was raised by a single mom who was physically and verbally abusive, thus she developed a strong sense of self-hatred and isolation as a result. This reveals itself in her desire to avoid human contact and to be blunt with those she is obliged to meet. Satoru learns that Kayo’s gruff exterior masks a profound emotional scar that Satoru can relate to. Kayo’s character grows to believe that the protagonist is a good and honest friend with each “Revival.” They are able to break the cycle of revivals because of their faith in each other. That character has finally found happiness is something we can all celebrate at the end of the story.

One of anime’s best mystery series, I believe, has a compelling lead character in Kayo Hinazuki. I’m pleased to see that anime and manga lovers agree with me after making it to this list.

8. Shiemi Moriyama (Ao no Exorcist)

Shiemi Moriyama (Ao no Exorcist)

Shiemi Moriyama is number eight (Ao no Exorcist)

Date of Birth: 6 March

Our eighth character is a dandere from one of my favorite anime shows, so let’s get started! Ao no Exorcist or the Blue Exorcist are both Japanese anime series.

Nature-loving Shiemi Moriyama lives a quiet life in the woods with her family. Her grandma shields her from the outer world when we first meet Shiemi. On her days off, she works in her grandmother’s apothecary, where she helps her grandma plant and make tea. Shiemi has a natural ability to discern a person’s sickness and blend the right medical plants to treat the afflicted.

When she meets Rin Okumura, her outlook shifts. In order to become an Exorcist, Shiemi decides to leave her peaceful home and attend the tumultuous True Cross Academy. During her first Taming course at the Academy, she shows her exceptionality by calling an infant Greenman spirit.

Shiemi Moriyama is a valuable member of the Blue Exorcist’s team and the loveliest female character to be born in the month of May.

7. Norman (Yakusoku no Neverland)

Date of birth: 21 March 2034

There are some excellent suspense adventures in The Promised Neverland’s manga and anime, but this season is turning out to be a hot mess. Character growth for Kaiu Shirai was a highlight in both mediums. So, here we are at the seventh offering in honor of March’s birthday month…

Norman, or 22194, if you like. When this one-year-old was born in 2034, he was taken to Grace Field House. Norman was able to compensate for his lack of physical strength by sharpening his mental acumen throughout his time at Grace Field. Thus, his caregivers would label Norman as “high quality items” and place him behind Emma and Ray in the pecking order of importance.

It’s clear that he’s a person who pays close attention to what others have to say and then formulates an appropriate answer in order to serve the community. As a result of this character flaw, Norman is willing to give his life to help his buddies escape the farm. However, Norman’s keepers have other ideas and ship him to facility 7214. He’d learn about the devils’ mission and the significance of the youngsters. Because of this information, Norman organizes an uprising, which results in the release of many of his fellow prisoners.

We see Norman’s transformation from a docile to a forceful leader in both the manga and the anime. This is why Norman has so many followers and why he’s ranked seventh on our list of favorite fictional characters.

6. Ryūnosuke Tanaka (Haikyū!!)

Ryūnosuke Tanaka (Haikyū!!)

March 3, 1996 was my birthday.

National Collegiate Athletic Association’s basketball tournament season begins in March in the United States, which is known as “March Madness.” College teams from all across the country fight for the honor of being named the best in their respective sports. That our number six anime birthday is based on an anime about a sports team’s ascent to the top seems only fitting.

The Karasuno High School Men’s Volleyball Team uses Rynosuke Tanaka as a wing spiker. On the court and off, despite his delinquent demeanor, this guy possesses a warm and caring heart of gold.

Inside cross, straight spike, and jump service are just a few of Rynosuke’s many specializations in the game of volleyball. He is the only Karasuno player who has appeared in every game thus far.

Ryonosuke became a personal trainer and married Kiyoko Shimizu after graduating high school. Kiyoko’s seiy, Kaori Nazuka, adores Tanaka, and I have to agree with her.

For our first birthday celebration of spring or fall… depending on where you reside, Ryuu-chan is an amusing, tour de force.

5. Sakura Haruno (Naruto)

Date of Birth: 28th March

The anime fandom, as well as the show’s production crew, is divided about the status of our fifth featured character as a Naruto heroine.

It was a happy childhood for Sakura Haruno, the only child of Mebuki and Kizashi Haruno. Despite this, Sakura’s upbringing did not shield her from the cruel taunts of her peers as a youngster, which led to her developing an unhealthy self-image. As a result of friendships and academic success, she was able to overcome these deep-seated fears. Even though Sakura’s ninja skills are subpar, her mental sharpness has led her to the brink of becoming a medical nin in the future.

Sarada Uchiha, her daughter from her marriage to Sasuke Uchiha, was born in the course of the series.

“A life with love throughout!” is her personal credo. Sakura’s love for her family and friends is a testament to this.

An introduction to Sakura Haruno came with the release of Naruto Uzumaki on March 3rd, 2000. Fans of anime and manga still care about Sakura twenty-one years later, regardless of whether they consider her a heroine or not. Sakura Haruno’s birthday is today, and I’m wishing her a happy one!

4. Sanji “Black-Leg” Vinsmoke (One Piece)

Sanji 'Black-Leg' Vinsmoke (One Piece)

Date of birth: 2 March 1503

Per Ranker, One Piece presently ranks fifth among all time favorite shnen series ever created. As a result, it should not come as a surprise if a character from One Piece is included on an anime fan’s favorite list. The Straw Hat Pirates’ Sanji Vinsmoke celebrates his birthday in this month’s birthdays list.

His birthplace was in the Germa Kingdom, but he would relinquish his throne in order to work as a sous chef for “Red-Leg” Zeff, a renowned chef in his own right.

Sanji joined Monkey D. Luffy and the Going Merry crew after the events of the Baratie Arc. He is the ship’s cook and can use the martial arts technique known as the “Black Leg Style” to defeat his opponents. His kicks have the power and aptitude to break mountains thanks to this training method.

Nausea-inducing women like Nami, Robin and Ishilly are Sanji’s one and only weakness..

Is it really a surprise that Sanji’s birthday falls on the same day as National Banana Crème Pie Day, given that our fourth piece is about a cook working under a captain named Monkey?

3. Eren Yeager (Shingeki no Kyojin)

On March 30, 835, I was born.

Third place goes to the Eren Yeager, which is based on the popular anime and manga series Attack on Titan.

Eren Yeager, a native of the Shiganshina District, is the only child of Dr. Grisha and Carla Yeager, and he shares his adoptive sister Mikasa with his biological brother.

As a result of his simple worldview, he is a deeply principled person. This is demonstrated by his admiration for the Survey Corps and his criticism of the Military Police for their role in the deaths of civilians. Eventually, he realizes that life isn’t so straightforward.

He enlists in the military to exact vengeance on the Titans for the deaths of his parents. Eren would finish ninth in the 104th Training Corps’ cadets. Eren’s desire to join the Survey Corps is stifled as he is assigned to clean artillery pieces along the wall, despite this accomplishment. As a result of this project and its repercussions, the world of Attack on Titan and anime viewers alike would be turned upside down.

Eren now holds the record for the most Titan kills among his fellow soldiers.

Isayama’s Eren Yeager is a well-defined protagonist, with the fan-favorite polls placing him at the top of our list of the most popular characters with March birthdays.

2. Alphonse Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Alphonse Elric (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood)

On March 19, 1900, I was born.

Our first Fullmetal Alchemist character is Alphonse Elric, also known as Al.

A Human Transmutation experiment was conducted by him and his brother Edward when they were younger. This misguided attempt caused Al’s body to disintegrate, leaving him merely as a soul encased in steel armor. Al’s body can be restored to normal if the brothers find the Philosopher’s Stone, a magical artefact. Anime fans learn about the yin and yang aspect of the brother’s connection through their exploits.

When it comes to fighting, Edward is the impulsive one, whereas Alphonse is the more thoughtful one. When compared to his brother and the other Amestrain State Alchemists, Al’s childlike wonder and confidence in humanity hide a deeper emotional maturity. Alphonse’s compassionate disposition isn’t limited to humans, as he frequently cares for stray kittens on his brother’s trips.

Given that the series writers had to rely on voice inflection to portray emotion, it’s no surprise that anime fans have chosen Alphonse Elric as their March silver medalist.

As a fun fact, Alphonse is mentioned by Nagi Sazenin, who has Rie Kugimiya as her seiy in Hayate the Combat Butler, in an episode.

1. Roy Mustang (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Date of birth: 25 March 1885

When it comes to March-born anime characters, Fullmetal Alchemist’s General Roy Mustang is our top pick. In the spirit of complete disclosure, I’d like to make this clear: In the Fullmetal Alchemist universe, Roy Mustang is a standout character.

Roy, a former Ishval Civil War hero now serving in the Amestrian State Military, is the commanding officer of a State Alchemist unit.

Flame Alchemy is a special ability he possesses. While he appears to be narcissistic, self-centered, and a serial womanizer, he is actually a well-rounded individual. An intellectually reflective individual who is intelligent and cares profoundly about those under his charge and the public is hidden beneath this thinly veiled appearance.

Playing chess is one of Roy’s favorite pastimes. It is clear that the General enjoys chess since he refers to his subordinates as chess pieces with a meaning of fighting skill, utility, and personal connections to him. The Führer of Amestris, which acts as both the head of state and the commander in chief of the State Military, is where he hopes to end up in his professional career.

For his leadership and alchemy abilities, General Roy Mustang is first on our list.
