11 Best Shows Like The Good Place On Netflix Update 04/2024

Shows Like The Good Place On Netflix

In January 2020, The Good Place fans were dealt a devastating blow with the cancellation of the popular NBC show. Cast and crew of The Good Place have left the show after just four seasons. The show did the right thing by wrapping up while the writing was still fresh and funny, the fan base was still strong, and the characters could still grow as people. Even though it’s only been a few months since the show ended, I’m already missing The Good Place and its quirky, endearing cast. Fortunately, the world of television is vast and unending. There are a plethora of shows available on streaming services that could potentially fill the void left by The Good Place on television.

1. Dead Like Me

Dead Like Me

It’s about a group of grim reapers who have the unenviable task of removing someone’s soul just before they die in the show Dead Like Me. It follows Gergia (Ellen Muth) and her friends Rube (Mandy Patinkin), Mason (Callum Blue), Roxy (Jasmine Guy), and Daisy on their grim reaping adventures (Laura Harris). Bryan Fuller’s show Dead Like Me, which aired on Showtime from 2003 to 2004, had two seasons.

Fans of The Good Place will enjoy Dead Like Me because it deals with death and the afterlife in a more mature way than The Good Place does. They’re also interested in how death isn’t the end of the road for the soul, but rather a stop along the way. In both series, an unlikely group of characters interacts and becomes a better version of themselves as a result of their experiences.

2. Russian Doll

Russian Doll, a Netflix original series starring Natasha Lyonne, is based on the life of the titular Russian doll. She portrays Nadia, a software engineer trapped in a never-ending time loop that sends her back to her 36th birthday and her death. Nadia tries to figure out what happened in order to save her own life.

There are many similarities between Russian Doll and The Good Place in that the main female characters aren’t the best people, but they learn to be better people through death. Time loops are a recurring theme in both shows. For two seasons, Nadia and the other characters on The Good Place have been living the same day over and over again.

3. Cheers

Cheers

Norm (George Wendt) runs the Cheers bar in Boston, which is frequented by a diverse group of characters, including Sam Malone (Ted Danson), who owns the establishment (Kelsey Grammer). Cheers is a show about the goings-on at the Cheers bar and the various relationships that exist within it.

Cheers has an interesting ensemble cast, led by Michael, that could easily go toe to toe with Eleanor (Kristen Bell), Tahani (Jameela Jamil), Chidi (William Jackson Harper), and Jason (Manny Jacinto) in terms of hilarity and having an opposite. Sitcom archetypes like Fraiser and Chidi, Jason and Woody (Woody Harrelson), Eleanor and Carla, and Tahani and Diane all have a similar dynamic.

4. Pushing Daisies

What the Show Is About: Bryan Fuller’s Pushing Daisies is yet another cult classic that will be long forgotten. Lee Pace plays Ned, a man with the ability to bring the dead back to life with a single touch. He makes use of his abilities to assist in the investigation of homicides. Using his abilities to bring Chuck (Anna Friel), his childhood sweetheart, back to life complicates matters, but he must refrain from touching her again lest she die. There were two seasons of Pushing Daisies on the small screen.

Fans of The Good Place will enjoy Pushing Daisies because of its fable-like approach to death, which is similar to that of The Good Place.

5. Schitt’s Creek

Schitt’s Creek

What’s the Story: After Johnny (Eugene Levy) is defrauded by his business partner, the Rose family is left penniless. All that’s left for them is a joke town that Johnny bought. The Roses have no choice but to move to Schitt’s Creek and start over.

Schitt’s Creek will appeal to fans of The Good Place because it also places its main characters in a hellish environment, like the Bad Place. The Rose family, like the four humans in The Good Place, bonds and finds some good in their terrible situation. Both series’ central characters find love, happiness, and purpose despite their unfortunate circumstances.

6. Santa Clarita Diet

Santa Clarita Diet is a Netflix original film starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant about a married couple whose life is turned upside down when Sheila (Drew Barrymore) turns into a zombie.

Why The Good Place fans will enjoy it: To make their characters’ situations even stranger and funnier, the Santa Clarita Diet series places them in a bizarre and hilarious situation. This is only made funnier by the show’s four main characters: Sheila, Joel, Eric, and Abby (Skyler Gisondo) (Liv Hewson). Santa Clarita Diet and The Good Place have a lot in common when it comes to making a gloomy situation into something hilarious.

7. Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Brooklyn Nine-Nine follows the officers of the Brooklyn 99th precinct in the show. A police procedural done in a lighthearted manner. Their cases and criminals change every week, so they’re always challenged. There are also issues with relationships in and out of the office in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Andy Samberg, Melissa Fumbero, Terry Crews, and Andre Braugher are among the cast members.

The Good Place fans will enjoy Brooklyn Nine-Nine because Michael Schur is the same person who created both shows, so there is a natural affinity between the two. They also have the impression that they are part of the same universe. We’d be willing to bet that Jake (Andy Samberg) arrested Eleanor at least a hundred times while she was in New York City. Also, what if Chidi and Holt (Andre Braugher) got together? I’d watch a Brooklyn Nine-Nine spinoff involving Chidi and Holt in the afterlife before the events of The Good Place finale if it involved Chidi and Holt in the afterlife.

8. Good Omens

In the show, Michael Sheen and David Tennant play angel Aziraphale and demon Crowley, respectively, who have been sent on separate missions to bring about the apocalypse so that the final battle between good and evil can begin. Both have, regrettably, developed strong attachments to the planet and its inhabitants. They have to make a decision about whether or not they want to be a part of the end of the world.

It’s a good choice for fans of The Good Place and Good Omens because both films explore the ramifications humans face when higher beings intercede in their lives. It also illustrates how morality is a fluid concept; what is wrong and what is right can’t always be neatly classified. Michael resembles a cross between Crowley and Aziraphale in terms of appearance and personality.

9. The Office

The Office

The Office is a comedy-drama about the Scranton office of paper manufacturer Dunder Mifflin. It’s centered on how employees spend their time at work. Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, and Rainn Wilson are among the cast members of The Office.

Michael Schur, the writer and actor who played Dwight’s cousin Mose on The Office, is well-known to fans of The Good Place. Neither The Good Place nor the Office can claim to be blood relatives, but they do share a common ancestor. Both shows focus on the characters and make use of the environment to further the plots. In comparison to The Good Place, The Office is more grounded in reality.

10. Parks and Recreation

About the Show: Parks and Recreation follows the Pawnee Parks and Recreation Department, which is overseen by devoted resident Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler). Another sitcom that follows the daily lives of small-town workers in mockumentary style is Parks and Rec.

Another Michael Schur series that feels even more closely related to The Good Place than The Office would be appealing to fans of that show. The Good Place and Parks and Rec have a strong familial resemblance. The shows share a similar sense of levity, but they never come across as carbon copies or reruns of one another. Despite the fact that Parks and Rec and The Good Place are two very different comedies, they share a similar comedic tone.

11. Superstore

Superstore

WATCH THIS SHOW HERE

About the Show: Superstore is a show about the employees of Cloud 9’s superstore. There are several episodes that follow the employees as they try to deal with difficult customers, the typical dilemmas of wage workers, and their own personal issues. A-list actors and actresses appear in the film Superstore, including America Ferrera, Mark McKinney, Ben Feldman, Lauren Ash, Colton Dunn, and Nico Santos.

Fans of The Good Place will enjoy Superstore because both shows are about people who are good at heart but may not always act like it. You can’t help but like and root for the characters in Superstore, despite the fact that they’ve all done something dubious at some point. Both shows put an emphasis on the characters before bringing out the humor in the situations they find themselves in.
