There are a handful of teen films from each decade that come to symbolize that decade. These films focused on adolescence’s struggles, as well as the tensions that can arise between parents and their children. They also celebrated the significance of teen parties. Can’t Hardly Wait is a teen comedy classic from the 1990s that everyone remembers. This film, along with Booksmart and Superbad, has contributed to bringing attention to the amusing events leading up to and following the high school graduation ceremony.
Everyone has a favorite teen film because it takes us back to a more carefree era, whether nostalgically or in relation to the struggles and triumphs of the characters. Even though I could rattle off a list of my top 50 favorite teen films, this list is more about films that have something in common than it is about my personal favorites. Perhaps their portrayal of friendship, pursuing the improbable love interest, or simply illustrating the complex dynamics of high school social life is to blame.
1. Can’t Hardly Wait
When a group of high school graduates attend a year-end party, their goals and expectations are all different. In the center of the story, Preston (Ethan Embry) is preparing to confess his feelings for Amanda (the most popular student at his high school) (Jennifer Love Hewitt). Lauren Ambrose, Peter Facinelli, and Seth Green round out the Can’t Wait cast.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. I don’t think so. Wait illustrates the tension between teen expectations and the realities of high school. The majority of students believe that their high school years will be their best yet, and that their future will be even better. There will always be a gap between what people expect and what they actually experience, but this does not preclude high school or life after high school from being exciting and fun!
2. American Pie
About: Five high school friends make a deal to go out and get their virginity before they graduate. A total of eight American Pie films have been made, including the three direct sequels American Pie 2, American Wedding, and the American Reunion sequel. American Pie stars Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Seann William Scott, and Alyson Hannigan.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. American Pie, a raunchy teen film released in 1999, revolutionized the genre. That relationship between Jim (Jason Biggs) and his father (Eugene Levy) is some of the best parts of the movie. It was shocking, funny, awkward, and sometimes surprising heartwarming. The American Pie film series has endured for so long because of the impact they have on young people’s minds.
3. 10 Things I Hate About You
What it’s about: Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) wants to ask Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) out, but she can’t date until her sister Kat (Julia Stiles) dates in this modern take on Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. As a result, he enlists the help of notorious bad boy Patrick (Heath Ledger) to kill Kat. Kat and Patrick begin to develop feelings for one another.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. The 90s romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You is a funny and heartwarming film. From the very beginning to the very end, the love stories of Kat and Patrick, as well as Cameron and Bianca, captivate you. You sincerely hope that both young love stories succeed.
4. Sixteen Candles
Molly Ringwald, Michael Schoeffling, and Anthony Michael Hall star in this John Hughes classic. On her sixteenth birthday, Sam (Molly Ringwald) is overshadowed by her sister Ginny’s (Blanche Baker) wedding, in this film. Sam has no idea that her longtime love Jake Ryan (Michael Scoeffling) has begun to take an interest in her.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. In film history, the final scene between Jake Ryan and Sam has become one of the most recognizable ones. The entire movie brilliantly captures the tumultuous side of adolescence. A bad day can be made much better with a little birthday magic, as this story demonstrates
Jason Biggs plays Paul, a small-town kid who transfers to Columbia University in New York City for the first time. He runs into a lot of jerks who take advantage of, abuse, and otherwise mistreat him and others. He meets Dora along the way and develops a friendship with her (Mena Suvari).
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Although Loser is frequently derided by moviegoers, I believe it to be a charming romantic comedy. Paul’s coming-of-age story feels authentic thanks to Jason Biggs’ naturally awkward on-screen persona, which he shares with Suvari. Another great theme in Loser is finding your own path and standing up for what you believe in, no matter how difficult it may be.
6. Say Anything
How the Story Goes: Lloyd Dobler (John Cusack) has been in love with Diane (Ione Skye) since they were in elementary school and decides to ask her out after graduation.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Lloyd is a swoon-worthy male movie protagonist in Say Anything, one of the best teen romance films. The story is about a group of teenagers who are growing apart from their parents and need to find their own paths in life without them, so it’s not just another teen romance film.
What’s at Issue: During high school, two best friends (Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever) only spend time together, but they decide to branch out and attend the big end-of-year party. As they make their way to the event, the girls encounter a slew of difficulties.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Booksmart reinvents the coming-of-age tale by presenting it from a new angle. It showcases rising stars Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, both of whom are extremely talented. Also, it’s a hilarious teen film.
Seth and Evan, played by Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, spend the night at a major party trying to score alcohol and impress their crushes. Superbad also features Seth Rogen, Emma Stone, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and Bill Hader.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. As a whole, Superbad is an entertaining comedy with some heartbreaking undertones. Even though Seth and Evan were friends in high school, they both know their paths are diverging. Despite their best efforts, it’s unavoidable.
9. Easy A
Easy A is a comedy in which Emma Stone plays Olive, a young woman who uses sexual impersonation to help other young men climb the social ladder. Easy A also features Penn Badgley, Amanda Bynes, and Aly Michalka.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Emma Stone’s comedic skills are showcased in Easy A. This film gives her a chance to shine because of its witty humor and commentary on society’s prejudicial attitude toward female sexuality, particularly that of teenage girls.
10. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
Basically, Ferris (Matthew Broderick) makes up a sick day so he can spend the day with his girlfriend Sloane (Mia Sara) and best friend Cameron in Chicago instead of going to school (Alan Ruck).
Why You should watch it if you like teen movies. The movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off demonstrates that sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back and appreciate what you’ve got. There is a lot of beauty in the world, but you have to be open to accepting it before you can see it for yourself.
What’s at Issue: Four friends set out on a European road trip after graduating from high school. In the wake of his ex-breakup, girlfriend’s Scotty (Scott Mechiowicz) offends his German pen pal Mieke (Jessica Boehrs). He takes a trip across Europe to see the sights and to make amends with Mieke, whom he has hurt. There are three actors who play Scotty’s closest friends in EuroTrip: Michelle Trachtenberg, Jacob Pitts, and Travis Wester.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. As funny as it is offensive, EuroTrip is a raunchy teen comedy. It’s obscene at times, but it’s done for comedic effect rather than just to sneak in a few boob scenes.
12. The Duff
As a result of being labeled the DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) by her friends, Bianca (Mae Whitman) enlists the assistance of jock Wesley (Robbie Amell) to help her transform her appearance. There are a number of other actors in Duff besides Bella Thorne and Skyler Samuels who appear in the film.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Even though The Duff pays homage to films like She’s All That and other classic teen comedies, it also takes an interesting and surprising turn. Bianca’s makeover is secondary to Wesley learning that it is his beliefs and worldview that are the real problem, not her physical appearance. Because of Robbie Amell and Mae Whitman’s on-screen chemistry, The Duff works exceptionally well.
13. Fast Times At Ridgemont High
What’s at Issue: There’s a year at Ridgemont High that’s covered in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and it stars Judge Reinhold as Brad, Jenniffer Jason Leigh as Stacy, Brian Backer as Mark, Phoebe Cates as Linda, and Michael J. Fox as Mike (Robert Romanus). Seth MacFarlane is in the cast as is Nicolas Cage and Forest Whitaker.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. The movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High is a cult favorite due to its combination of slapstick humor and sex scenes from the 1980s. In addition, it’s a classic because of the sincere portrayal of teenage characters attempting to deal with adult situations, but lacking the emotional maturity to do so.
About Cher (Alicia Silverstone): Cher (Alicia Silverstone) likes to meddle in other people’s lives. She enjoys the role of matchmaker, but when she finds herself attracted to an unexpected suitor, she doesn’t know what to do. Clueless also features Brittany Murphy, Paul Rudd, Stacey Dash, and Donald Faison.
Why It’s one of the best films for teenagers ever made. Taking place in Beverly Hills, this new adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma focuses on the conceitedness of the rich and famous, especially young people. This film, on the other hand, reveals that beneath it all, they are just normal kids like us. They simply require guidance.
