1. Supernatural

The live-action version of The Simpsons, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, is called Supernatural. They’re in the middle of Season 13 now, and nothing will stop them. In fact, an animated Scooby-Doo episode aired on Supernatural earlier this season.

A demon kills their mother when they’re children, and the two brothers who grow up in the aftermath are known as Supernatural. Their dad takes up the torch to hunt down this demon. Years later, the exact same demon kills him, and his sons are left to continue their father’s demon-hunting work. In the course of their work, they look into strange phenomena and hunt down any monsters they come across.

2. The Originals

The Originals is in its fifth and final season.

The Originals is about the original vampires. They’re incredibly old—possibly tens of thousands of years. When the show kicks off, the Mikaelson family is trying to maintain power in New Orleans. (What is it with New Orleans and vampires? Interview with a Vampire, True Blood

The Originals features a great deal of family drama as well as a large number of attractive characters. It’s a bit like Dynasty, but with vampires and werewolves instead of human protagonists.. The story also includes a baby and prophecies. (Twilight much?)

3. Alphas

You may not have heard of Alphas. Alphas aired on Syfy several years ago and was short-lived, only 24 episodes.

Alphas is about a team of people who investigate supernatural or paranormal activity. But they themselves have paranormal powers, like telekinesis, hyperkinesis and the ability to detect electromagnetic traces.

As well as genre-favorite Summer Glau and David Strathairn from Billions and The Blacklist, Alphas also starred (Firefly, Serenity).

4. The Vampire Diaries

This is a show that has a lot of fans. The fact that Ian Somerhalder is in it helps.

There are two brothers in The Vampire Diaries who have feelings for the same woman, Elena. Two people stand between us: one is evil, and the other is not. The other thing about them is that they’re a vampire family. The Vampire Diaries takes place in a fictional town called Mystic Falls. (It’s kind of True Blood light.)

Very famously, Nina Dobrev who played Elena, left two seasons before the show ended. The Vampire Diaries ended after eight seasons.

Fans love The Vampire Diaries, not just because of the good-looking people, but also because it had really smart writing and the stakes were high. (Get it? Stakes?) Meaning that people’s choices had real consequences.

5. The Secret Circle

For the simple reason that it features witches, The Secret Circle is particularly dear to me. (Harry Potter, to cite one example.)

The plot of The Secret Circle will ring a bell with anyone who has read the Harry Potter series. Teenage Cassie relocates from California to Chance Harbor, Washington, in order to be closer to her grandmother. She develops feelings for a mysterious Adam who appears out of nowhere. (What is it about Washington, DC, that attracts so many young women in search of supernatural men?)

Everyone at Cassie’s school is a witch, it turns out. The caveat is they can’t work magic on their own. They can only work magic when they gather together in a circle. (Does that make any sense?)

Take a chance on the series The Secret Circle because it starts off slowly before ramping up in intensity and darkness around the third or fourth episode. A major reason why I enjoy The Secret Circle so much is because it stars Britt Robertson, who I adored in Tomorrowland.

6. Teen Wolf

When you’re in high school, you’ve already got enough on your plate. Scott McCall, a teenage werewolf on Teen Wolf, gets bitten by a werewolf. ) (He gets bitten while out in the woods with his BFF looking for a body.) (by which I mean…) He falls head over heels in love with the new girl at school, whose father is on the prowl for the werewolf that he believes he has turned into.

With Adam, it’s all about keeping his powers under control and avoiding being killed by either the girl’s father or the alpha who bit him.

7. Beauty and the Beast

When I say Beauty and the Beast,I don’t mean the show from the ’80s. I’m referring to the one with Kristin Kreuk, the Smallville girl.

In her role as a detective, Kreuk uncovers a sinister secret about her own family. During this time, she’s dating Dr. Vincent Keller, who is hiding something of his own. He resembles Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as a result of government experimentation.

They flee, and he struggles mightily to keep his abilities under control. It’s your typical “I’m in love with a monster, so how good of a relationship are we going to have?” story.

8. The Tomorrow People

The character of Stephen Jameson, played by Robbie Amell, drew my attention to The Tomorrow People when it aired. Since his cousin Stephen Amell plays Oliver Queen on Arrow, I was introduced to Robbie Amell through him. Robbie Amell played the original Firestorm on The Flash. And I recently caught a glimpse of him in the second season of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. No more Amell family drama!

Like an X-Men story or FOX’s The Gifted, the Tomorrow People follows a group of mutants as they try to survive in the future. The Tomorrow People tells the story of a group of people who are being hunted because they possess supernatural abilities such as telepathy and teleportation. Ultra, a group of government spies, is after them.

Even though The Tomorrow People uses a lot of sci-fi clichés, that’s part of the appeal because The Tomorrow People isn’t trying to be profound.

9. Legends of Tomorrow

Legends of Tomorrow, definitely. It’s not so much about ghosts as it is about a motley crew of misfits banding together to look into other strange happenings.

Everyone in the Legends has their own special ability. Legends of Tomorrow has a lot of action, which is one of the reasons I enjoy it so much. In addition, there’s a lot of tension and serious ramifications to characters’ decisions in it. Leonard Snart will be missed!
