In anticipation of the commencement of the 17th season of ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, fans should check out these films, some of which include the same stars.
As a mid-season replacement, Grey’s Anatomy debuted on ABC in March of 2005. As a result, it has become the longest-running medical drama on television. For the past 16 seasons, this show has maintained its popularity by delivering thought-provoking plots to its loyal audience, and it shows no signs of slowing down any time soon.
Streaming the last 15 years of episodes on Netflix should tide fans over till the release of season 17, but if not, here are some movies to tide you over until then!
Patrick Dempsey’s portrayal of Dr. Derek Shepherd, or “McDreamy,” was a big draw for fans of the show from the start.
This series was the catalyst for Dempsey’s rise to fame as a heartthrob and household brand in the entertainment industry. Dempsey’s portrayal of Prince Charming in Enchanted makes it a terrific picture for those who miss the McDreamy charm.
2. John Q
For its sincere storylines and emotional dialogue, Grey’s Anatomy is a popular television series. Additionally, it’s noted for its suspense and drama.
Denzel Washington’s performance in John Q, directed by Nick Cassell, makes this an ideal movie night pick, as it keeps the audience on the edge of their seats while also making them grab for the tissues.
3. Return To Me
Meredith’s death is sad for fans because they know that Derek and Meredith were supposed to be together just as Mark and Lexie were meant to be together and Izzie was destined to be with Denny.
This film about a widower who loses his wife and then falls in love with the woman who receives his late wife’s heart after her death is a must-see if you’re seeking for a story that is equal parts love and sadness.
Physicians perform medical miracles and save patients’ lives on a regular basis in hit medical drama, such as when Meredith drowns during a clinical experiment and all of the doctors work together to save her, or when Derek and Meredith get their first success in a scientific trial.
Breakthrough, starring Chrissy Metz, is a must-see if you’re looking for an inspirational story filled with miracles.
5. Love And Other Drugs
Viewers of Grey’s Anatomy are enthralled by the characters’ ability to fall in love and support one another through both good and difficult times. As we see Meredith and Cristina overcome their own tragedies, we feel hopeful for the future of their relationship as a whole.
Many of these issues are explored in the film Love and Other Drugs, starring Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal.
6. The Wedding Planner
Dr. Arizona Robbins is one of the most attractive TV physicians since she is a pediatrician, and nothing is more appealing to viewers than a sexy doctor who truly cares about kids. For those of us who feel the same way, The Wedding Planner is undoubtedly already one of our favorite films.
Matthew McConaughey stars as a pediatrician who develops feelings for Jennifer Lopez’s Mary (played by Lopez herself). A young Justin Chambers also appears as a love interest for Mary in this film.
7. Life As We Know It
It’s fortunate for Grey’s Anatomy fans who miss Izzie Stevens that Katherine Heigl has a slew of movies in which she can channel the same quirky charm and sweetness she brought to her role as Dr. Katherine Heigl on Grey’s.
Life As We Know It, starring Josh Duhamel as Eric and Heigl as Holly, is one of her best rom-com roles. After the death of Holly and Eric’s best friends in a car accident, the infant is placed in their care. This one has a lot of excellent laughs and tears.
8. Patch Adams

In the late 1990s, Robin Williams starred in a semi-autobiographical film based on his own experiences. Patch Adams, a doctor battling mental illness, opens a clinic to serve the needs of the uninsured and underserved.
Grey’s Anatomy viewers who tune in week after week to feel uplifted and inspired by Patch Adams’ belief that laughing is the best medicine should enjoy this film.
9. Old School
It’s no secret that Ellen Pompeo has had a difficult time “making it” in Hollywood. For an actress in Hollywood, Pompeo’s fame came later than most of her peers. She was 35 when she was cast as Meredith Grey in Grey’s Anatomy.
Watch Old School if you want to see Ellen Pompeo’s rise to fame. Nicole, a love interest for Luke Wilson’s character, Mitch, is played by Pompeo in this film.
10. Under The Tuscan Sun
It’s a must-see if you’re a fan of Cristina Yang and Addison Shepherd and Diane Lane. An expecting couple are played by Sandra Oh and Kate Walsh in the film. Viewers question why they didn’t work together more on Grey’s Anatomy, given the strong connection between these two actresses.
As a doctor, Walsh makes us wonder if this movie is genuinely place in an alternateGrey’s world.
