The term “gaslight” was originally used in the 1944 film, Gaslight. A number of popular gaslighting movies on abusive relationships are also available to watch. 1. Gaslight (1944)
This film, set in the 1940s, was ahead of its time in many ways. Film starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer portrays how a spouse manipulates his wife to the point where she starts to doubt her sanity and finds herself involved in bizarre situations.. As a gaslighting film, it’s one of the best examples to date.
2. The Changeling (2008)
The Changeling is based on a true tale of a mother who loses her 9-year-old kid. The police department (one of the perpetrators) hands a boy to her and claims that he is her son when she reports the case. As soon as she argues and rejects it, they show her to be insane and put her in an institution. Here we go again with another gaslighting film!
3. Unsane (2018)
Unsane, a psychological horror film, about a lady who has been manipulated and harassed by her boyfriend. Everyone is trying to convince her that she’s gone insane and put her in a mental health care center.
4. Enough (2002)
Jennifer Lopez plays a lady in an abusive relationship in the film, which is based on a true story. A beautiful marriage looked to begin, but later she discovered an entirely new aspect to her relationship that she hadn’t previously known about. It was a joyful ending for this gaslighting movie because the protagonist decided to fight back.
5. Sleeping With The Enemy (1991)
This film, which is based on Nancy Price’s 1987 novel of the same name, explores the themes of domestic abuse and gaslighting. The pair appears to be the happiest in the world to the outside world. In fact, though, things are quite the opposite. The wife fakes her own death in order to flee her abusive husband. Husband controls his wife’s every move and blames her for everything in this psycho-thriller about an abusive relationship.
6. Kabir Singh (2019)
Kabir Singh, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Adwani, is a sexist gaslighting film. In every scene, Kiara Advani aka Priti is lied to by her toxic boyfriend in the guise of love.
7. Your Reality (2019)
In order to raise awareness about the dangers of gaslighting, this short film was made. The boyfriend exerts control over and manipulates his partner in the short film on gaslighting. 8. Invisible Man (2020)
It’s the story of a crazy scientist who fakes his own death and becomes invisible. Everybody thinks she’s insane because he follows her around. Nobody will believe her because he abuses and terrorizes her.

Sri Devi in English Vinglish talks about emotional abuse in a new way. Many married Indian women lose their self-confidence when they are subjected to gaslighting by their spouses and children. Emotional abuse is depicted in this dramatic film, which shows how the protagonist recovers her lost self-confidence and dignity!
10. Girl on the train (2021)
It is based on Paula Hawkins’ novel, which was published in 2015. It depicts how a woman’s spouse systematically mistreats her for years on end. As a result, she can no longer rely on her own judgment.
