There are a lot of black female anime characters that will leave you speechless. Unfortunately, anime often misses the mark when it comes to portraying other minorities appropriately. Most notably in the case of characters who identify as being of color. It always makes me happy to see a Black character in anime, especially a Black woman, who isn’t a parody of some sort of oppressed minority. That’s all we’re asking for.

I’m glad to see that since I was a kid, the number of black characters in anime has gone up tremendously. I’m glad to see more Black female characters in anime now than there used to be. Despite the fact that there aren’t many of them, seeing a Black female anime character in a show that I enjoy makes me happy.
