10 Best American Characters In Anime That You Should Know Update 04/2024

American Characters In Anime

These 10 American characters, while having a bad reputation in the anime world, have managed to win over our hearts.

In anime, American characters are generally depicted as snobbish and uncool. This is a rare occurrence, as Americans tend to write their own fiction in which they are always the sharpest members of the group. Anime characters, on the other hand, are often stereotypes of the worst qualities of the United States.

However, this isn’t always the case, and there have been a few characters in anime history that are both American and fantastic. Even though they occasionally play into stereotypes, they nevertheless manage to develop their characters in a way that makes them less typical.

10. Susanna Hopkins

Susanna Hopkins

A minor character in the second Genshiken series is Susanna. As an American visiting Japan, she soon finds herself hanging out with the country’s most obnoxious inmates. She’s a stutterer and responds to conversations with anime and manga lines that may or may not be relevant to the conversation at hand. Consuming as much BL as possible is her passion for Japanese culture.

9. Rally Vincent

Gunsmith Cats’ protagonist Rally Vincent is a well-known character. Her father, who had a gun shop in Chicago, taught her how to shoot a gun when she was a child. Rally chose to become a bounty hunter in order to find her father, who had gone missing while seeking for the killer of her mother. Since then, she’s been juggling her job as a shop owner with occasional bounty hunts.

8. Graham Aker

Graham Aker

When Graham Aker joins Gundam 00, he’s one of the most talented pilots in the American Union’s fleet. In the end, he finds himself outmatched in terms of technology when he comes across the Gundams, just like everyone else.

However, due to his superior piloting skills, he is ultimately tasked with combating the Gundams. He eventually becomes Mr. Bushido, which elevates him to pure comedy level as an over-the-top pilot always on the lookout for his next opportunity. In the end, he is repeatedly savaged by Setsuna until he is completely forgotten about for the story’s main plot.

7. Barnaby Brooks Jr.

Barnaby Brooks Jr., a teenage hero who teams up with Wild Tiger, bursts onto the scene and rapidly makes a reputation for himself thanks to his extraordinary abilities. Having lost both of his parents at the tender age of four, he has a deep-seated need for vengeance and is unable to let go of it. It’s still possible for him to overcome his anger and possibly become the King of Heroes thanks to the support he receives from his co-worker.

6. Chibodee Crocket

Chibodee Crocket

The Gundam Maxter’s pilot, Chibodee Crocket, represents Neo-America in the most recent Gundam Fight. The character has a boxing background and is essentially a stereotype in walking form. In the wake of his defeat against Domon he is bombarded with compliments from people who tell him how terrific of a fighter he is. His perseverance leads him to overcome his setbacks, and he grows into a more complex character as the story progresses. In the end, he becomes the next Queen of Spades and helps destroy the Devil Gundam.

5. Terry Bogard

When he appeared in many Fatal Fury films and even in the recently released King of Fighters anime, it can’t be stated that Terry doesn’t count. After losing a bout to Geese Howard, the character was inspired to avenge the death of his father.

After years of training, Terry was finally able to compete in Geese’s King of Fighter tournament, where he was crowned the victor. The tournaments for the King of Fighters were numerous and Terry won them all, handing out L’s like they were going for sale.

4. Guile

Guile

That Guile’s strength stems solely from his time in the United States Air Force seems a bit ludicrous. In real life, he’s a fantastic boxer, but in anime, his style is generally overlooked because it’s based on the military. Still, they allowed Guile to become one of Street Fighter’s most formidable characters, relying only on his Flash Kick and Sonic Boom to subdue opponents.

3. Joseph Joestar

There’s no denying that Joseph is the Joestar with the most personality. Joseph, following in the footsteps of his ancestor Jonathan, discovers the power of the Ripple and finds himself in a battle with the Ripple Men. Joseph’s greatest asset is his ability to out-strategize his adversary. Predicting what his opponent will say and do is an important part of most of his series, which leads to his triumph when he takes his opponent off-guard.

2. America

In Hetalia Axis Powers, America is depicted in its most literal form. He was raised by England after England won a battle against France and Finland on his behalf, eerily eerily eerily like America’s own history. Like actual America, he’s extremely intelligent but also has a habit of nosing around and interfering in other people’s lives. Aside from his love of video games and superheroes (and even directing films), he is also an all-around nerd.

1. Ash Lynx

Ash Lynx

Callenrees, the protagonist of Banana Fish, is a character in the novel. At the age of eight, he walks away from home and is taken in by a Mafia boss. To become the next mafia boss, Papa Dino instructs him during his time there. Ash rose to prominence as a gang leader thanks to his skill as a fighter and marksman. He has his back against the wall all the time as he fights to keep his freedom and the people he cares about protected.
