2. The Prophecy (1995)
Thomas Daggett claims that “some people lose their faith because Heaven shows them too little.” Many people lose faith after seeing too much of Heaven, but how many of those people are truly repentant? Daggett was on his way to becoming a priest when he joined the police force. A strange, eyeless, hermaphrodite corpse appears one morning, interrupting his plans to put religion behind him.
Suddenly, he finds himself in the middle of a Heavenly war. In addition to that, Heaven will once again expose him to far too much gore, blood, charred flesh, and the remains of living corpses. A young girl plays an even more important role in the heavenly war effort. This Native American child possesses a valuable commodity that Gabriel longs for. It’s so important to Gabriel that he’s willing to do anything to get it, even if it means murdering her and anyone else in his path.
3. Predator 2 (1990)
When LAPD lieutenant Mike Harrigan (played by Danny Glover) and his cocky detective partner Jerry Lambert (played by Bill Paxton) investigate what appears to be a bloody feud between the Jamaican and Colombian drug cartels led by voodoo high priest King Willie’s (played by Calvin Lockhart) and Ramon Vega’s (Corey Rand) gangs, they discover that a sinister third party has been involved.
Even though Peter Keyes’s (‘Gary Busey’ (qv)) federal team conceals the crime scene from the LAPD, forensics reveal that it must be an alien that is responsible for the victims’ continued deaths, and the pursuit brings the team together once again.
4. I, Frankenstein (2014)
Dr. Victor Frankenstein freezes to death and is buried in the family cemetery by the monster that created him. Gargoyles arrive to save him and bring him to the Gargoyles’ headquarters in a cathedral where the Order gathers. However, he is attacked by demons. When the creature is created, Dr. Frankenstein’s journal is kept by Gargoyle Queen Leonore along with the Order’s treasures and is given the name Adam by him.
As a result of this, she tells Adam that the Prince Naberius is leading an ancient war between angelic and demonic Gargoyles. As well, she invites him to join the Gargoyles in their fight against the demons, but Adam declines. When Adam returns 200 years later, he discovers a completely different world. Soon, he learns that Naberius intends to create an army of demon-possessed soulless corpses. Terra is working on a method to create life from scratch, while Naberius is looking for Dr. Frankenstein’s diary in order to aid Terra and build an army.
5. The Last Witch Hunter (2015)
The modern world is full of mysteries, but the most shocking one is the existence of witches, malevolent supernatural beings intent on bringing about the Black Death. For centuries, armies of witch hunters fought the supernatural foe all over the world, including Kaulder, a brave warrior who managed to kill the all-powerful Queen Witch and decimate her followers in the process. The Queen curses Kaulder with her own immortality in the final moments of her life, separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife for all eternity.
Currently, Kaulder is the only surviving member of his species, and he has dedicated the better part of his life to hunting down witches and searching for his long-lost family. However, Kaulder is unaware that the Queen Witch has been resurrected and is seeking vengeance on her assassin, resulting in a titanic struggle that will determine the fate of the human race as we know it.
6. Vampire Academy (2014)
Half-vampire, half-human Rose Hathaway is one of many dhampirs studying to be a guardian at St Vladimir’s Academy. In their world, there are good and bad vampires: Moroi, who live in harmony with humans and only drink blood from donors, and Strigoi, blood-sucking, murderous vampires who control one of the four elements (water, earth, fire, or air). Along with other dhampir guardians, Rose is taught to protect Moroi while also eliminating Strigoi.
There are those who wish to harm the princess and exploit Lissa for their own gain. Rose must flee St Vladimir’s with Princess Vasilisa Dragomir, the last of the Moroi line and her best friend, in order to protect the princess and Lissa from them.
7. Let Me In (2010)
When Kenny and two of his classmates bully 12-year-old Owen in Los Alamos, New Mexico, Owen is left feeling alone and dejected. At home, Owen dreams of exacting revenge on the bullies. It is only at night that he meets his 12-year-old next-door neighbor, Abby, in their building’s playground. During this time, Abby’s father is a wanted serial killer who uses the blood he draws from his victims to feed her, who is actually an ancient vampire.
The vampire Abby advises Owen to take on Kenny, but Owen soon learns that she is not what she appears to be. Meanwhile, a police officer is looking into the murders because he suspects a satanic cult is responsible.
8. Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Hansel and Gretel are abandoned in the woods by their father and end up being kidnapped by a wicked witch in a candy house where she keeps her prisoners. They manage to assassinate the witch, however, and then flee the scene. After a while, the orphans grew up to be renowned witch hunters.
Twelve children disappear from their village, and the mayor sends Hansel and Gretel to find them. Along the way, they rescue the village redhead Mina from the local sheriff’s burning wish. It doesn’t take them long to discover that the Blood Moon is just three days away and that the sinister witch Muriel is behind the kidnapping of children. She plans to protect the witches’ coven from the flames by combining the children with a special Sabbath ingredient. Meanwhile, Hansel and Gretel are revealing information about their biological parents to the public.
9. The Wolfman (2010)
After his mother died, Lawrence Talbot’s childhood was over. After his father committed him to an asylum for the mentally ill in the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Blackmoor, he left for the United States. While helping Gwen Conliffe, the fiancee of his brother, find her missing lover, Talbot returns to his father’s estate only to discover that a mauled body has been discovered.
Laurence sets out to find the person responsible for his brother’s death and discovers a horrifying destiny for himself after reuniting with his estranged father. Scotland Yard inspector Aberline is called in to look into the deaths of the villagers, who have been targeted by someone or something with brute strength and an insatiable appetite for blood.
10. The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones (2013)
An ordinary adolescent from contemporary New York City discovers she is descended from a line of young half-angel warriors engaged in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons, the Shadowhunters, when she meets Clary Fray. Upon discovering her mother’s disappearance, Clary joins forces with the group of Shadow Hunters, who take her to a dangerous alternate New York known as the Shadow World, which is full of demons, warlocks and vampires as well.
11. Prince Of Darkness (1987)
For many years, a sinister secret was hidden in the basement of an old Los Angeles church. After the death of a priest from a strange sect, another priest opens the basement door and finds a vat filled with a greenish substance. To find out more, the priest gets in touch with a team of physicists on the graduate level. It turns out, however, that the liquid contains Satan’s essence, and when it is released, it will unleash HIS father, an all-powerful Anti-God.
One can only imagine how horrifying it will be when the liquid comes to life and starts eating students. What chance do these students have of thwarting this assassin?
12. Dark Shadows (2012)
Joshua and Naomi Collins, along with their young son Barnabas, left Liverpool, England in 1752 in search of a new life in the New World. However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to escape the enigmatic curse that had befallen their family for generations.
