It’s time to turn down the lights, pop some popcorn, and tell the youngsters that both of those items were made by some amazing tinkerers!
The most important thing you can do for your child’s well-being is to let their imagination run wild while they watch and investigate on their own.
In order to come up with new ideas, you need an open mind and a lot of rubbish. Thomas Alva Edison
Lewis, a brilliant tinkerer and former orphan who is adopted by the Robinsons, is one of our all-time favorite inventors. Meet the Robinsons has a lot of interesting inventions, but it also demonstrates how vital it is to have people who believe in your crazy ideas!
We’re also in love with the movie’s soundtrack!
1. Meet the Robinsons
When a professor of chemistry creates a novel chemical, it seems to take on a life of its own. For tweens, The Absent-Minded Professor is a beloved Disney classic, but younger children may find it a little outdated. Flubber, starring Robin Williams, is exactly as fantastic as the original, but it has a lot more animated flair.
There is a valuable lesson in each of these stories about being committed to a single goal over the long haul and how that pays off in the end.
Let the youngsters get their hands dirty with some of the hands-on tinkering activities that are available!
This is one of the best-loved books in the family! ‘Wonderbot’ is the name of Rodney’s invention, which he creates to assist his father at work. To help provide for his family, Rodney chooses to take his creation to Robot City, where he hopes to land a job as an inventor.
The characters in this film are full of character and tenacity, two qualities essential to anyone looking to forge a new path. It’s also ideal for smaller children.
You can bet your bottom dollar that most parents have a fond memory of this movie from their childhood. Toymaker and inventor Caractacus Potts is the father of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a flying vehicle! Consequently, he and his children go on a number of fantastic journeys. My family and I have been eating this dish for years.

Everyone loves the man who invented edible wallpaper. As a candy inventor, Willy Wonka has decided it is time for him to retire, and he must select a successor for his candy business.
It is evident that Mr. Wonka is searching for a child who has both imagination and a heart of gold!

Big Hero 6 (Baymax) features the brainchild of genius and big brother Tadashi Hamada, one of the newest films on our list. In the aftermath of his brother Tadashi’s death, Hiro (an equally talented tinkerer) discovers Baymax and sets out to study how he works.
They become modern-day “super heroes” in this film, using their own inventions to help save their city from destruction.
6. Big Hero 6
When I first saw Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, it didn’t sit well with me because the book by the same name was one of my favorites as a kid. Even though it’s not a faithful adaptation of the book, it’s a terrific movie about inventing new things!
Flint, a young aspirant scientist, invents a contraption that turns water into food in the novel Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. Flint’s invention goes out of hand, and he has to come up with a plan to save the village of Chewandswallow from destruction.
7. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Honey, I Shrunk the Kids is another oldie but a goodie that I consider a dual-invention film. As a father and inventor, Rick Moranis is the perfect fit for the role. His newest invention occurs to shrink his children to the size of ants, much to the anger of his wife.
They need to tinker and invent to get back to safety and try to become ‘unshrunk’ in the second part of the film. These 20 Science Experiments in a Jar are perfect for kids who enjoyed the film.
8. Honey I Shrunk the Kids
In Back to the Future, Doc Brown is the insane inventor who constructs a car that can travel back in time (and is also powered by flux capacitor). He is stuck in the past when he accidentally takes a vehicle ride with Marty, a modern-day adolescent, and must come up with imaginative ways to return back in time.
This film has a lot of scientific information and imaginative imagination for the whole family to enjoy.
9. Back to the Future
Is anyone else a fan of these lovely animals?
While searching for a Christmas present for his son Billy Peltzer, Randall Peltzer encounters a fuzzy creature called a “Mogwai.” Don’t let the Gremlins get wet, don’t feed them after midnight, and keep the light out of their sight.
Billy, on the other hand, isn’t exactly a stickler for the rules, and things swiftly spiral out of control. If you’re looking for an old-school PG-13 movie, you’ll find it here—even if it has been given the old PG-13 rating.)
In addition, I can’t overlook Iron Man Tony Stark, who many children see as a superhero, but who is actually an innovator! This is the kind of armor that any kid who sees the movie wants to make:) He continues to invent new and wonderful things that aid to save the planet in the Marvel flicks.
