7 Best Dressed Anime Characters That You Should Know Update 04/2024

Best Dressed Anime Characters

The finest and worst dressed on the red carpet are voted on by fashion bloggers and television shows every year. Fans worry if Sandra Bullock will get her act together, if Lady Gaga is going to go full Godiva, and if Anne Hathaway will complete her makeover into Audrey Hepburn 2.0 this year. Anime also influences current fashion trends. Many characters are influenced by Harajuku’s Cat Street, which has been a fashion center for more than two decades. Check back next week for the best-dressed males.

  1. Maetel (Galaxy Express 999)

Maetel (Galaxy Express 999)

Two outfits are all Maetel owns. Space princess attire with a stunning fur coat, dress and cossak can be seen in the picture. Her ensemble exudes a sense of elegance and nostalgia for the days when traveling was a big deal, even if it meant taking a space train. Her sister, a glamorous space pirate, also inherited her mother’s fashion genes.

  1. Miwako (Paradise Kiss)

It was a tough decision, but in the end, I went with Miwako rather than Caroline because of her more opulent fashion sense. To a large extent, this is because Miwako has a distinct sense of style, whereas Caroline was more of a blank canvas for George to work with. Her style is reminiscent of sweet lolita, but there’s also a punk edge to it as well. Tiny girl with punk-rock boyfriend is what you’d expect. The dual nature of Miwako’s design is an inspiration. Despite her girly appearance, she’s no pushover.

  1. Kobato (Kobato.)

Kobato (Kobato.)

First up this week, Clamp introduces the mysterious Kobato and her foul-mouthed dog. She favors brightly printed sundresses and hats in her conservative, ultra-feminine wardrobe. It’s a romantic idea that isn’t infantilized like lolita clothes. Picnics in an English garden are a perfect fit for Kobato’s style, which is sweet, innocent, and romantic.

  1. Kate (Red Garden)

Having an anime set in a girl’s school in New York City really necessitates that you pay attention to their attire. A character in the show, Kate, has varsity prep style down pat, but with a lot more panache than the average student. There were no pussybow blouse-wearing high school girls when the Gonzo series debuted in 2006, well before this ’60s/’70s-inspired fashion trend gained traction here in the United States. Because of the success of the show Mad Men, her retro style was actually ahead of its time. Except for die-hard fans of vintage style, Kate’s longer skirts and blouse/vest combo is a bit out of style these days.

  1. Makoto Kino (Sailor Moon)

akoto Kino (Sailor Moon)

It was difficult to choose a character from Sailor Moon. A lot of dubious 90s attire is seen throughout the show, and many of the characters suffer from a lack of color. Makoto was the clear leader in combining athletic, feminine, and comfortable clothing in the series (we won’t speak about her green turtleneck/baby pink skirt combo, though). Makoto is another heroine whose clothing conveys a great deal about her character. In the photo, you can see that she isn’t frightened of sporting a boyish appearance, but she can simply transform it into something more refined and feminine. It’s Makoto’s style that the girls gravitate toward while attending formal events, as evidenced by her full-length black gown with a huge rose design. As far as I’m concerned, she doesn’t fit into any one mold.

  1. Yuko (xxxHOLiC)

It’s no surprise that CLAMP has two characters on this week’s list; the manga group is known for designing some of the most lavish clothes. I’d happily raid Yuko’s closet any day of the week if I could get my hands on it. She prefers to wear kimonos with a lot of layers or dresses with a romantic-gothic vibe. A shame that the TV anime doesn’t match CLAMP’s manga in terms of production quality, because the woman’s costumes are absolutely stunning.

  1. Nana Osaki (NANA)

Nana Osaki (NANA)

It’s impossible not to like my grandmother. She embodies the look of the bad-girl grunge/punk band. Even though she’s a very kind person on the inside, her clothing give off a “don’t mess with me” air. For some reason, you want to be her, drink with her, and attend concerts like she does. It’s impossible to separate the fashion and the girl from her clothes because of the amount of attitude they contain.
