Saoirse Ronan plays Eilis, a teenage Irish immigrant who moves to New York City in the 1950s and becomes a star of the 2015 awards season. Her new life in the city is more exciting, but she is still divided between her old life in the countryside and her new life in the city. In addition to Ronan’s nomination for Best Actress, the film received three Academy Award nominations.
2. Sing Street
When Connor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) decides to establish a band in order to win over a girl, Sing Street provides the setting. He informs Raphina (Lucy Boynton) that he wants her to star in one of the band’s music videos in the hopes of impressing her and making her fall in love with him. In the film, John Carney tells the story of his childhood in Ireland, which was later converted into a Broadway musical before the pandemic.
3. The Wind That Shakes the Barley
During the Irish Battle of Independence and the Irish Civil War, Cillian Murphy stars in The Wind That Shakes the Barley, a war drama. As a young medical student who puts his future on wait to join the Irish Republican Army, Murphy portrays Damien, the younger brother of Teddy (Pádraic Delaney). When a peace pact is struck, Damien and Teddy are no longer fighting together as they had hoped.
4. In the Name of the Father
The true story of Gerry Conlon (Daniel Day-Lewis), the man falsely convicted of detonating an IRA bomb in the 1970s, was the inspiration for the 1993 film In the Name of the Father. Gerry, the primary suspect in the bombing, is sentenced to 15 years in prison, where he spends more than a decade working with an English lawyer to clear his identity. The film received seven Oscar nominations and four Golden Globe nominations.

‘Falling Slowly’ from John Carney’s 2007 film Once was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. As a result of their collaboration on a song, Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, a Czech immigrant and a vacuum repairman, develop feelings for one another. The story unfolds over the course of a week in Dublin, Ireland, when the two leads meet and fall in love.
6. The Luck of the Irish
Despite the fact that it hasn’t received as much praise as some of the other films on this list, The Luck of the Irish remains a beloved Disney children’s picture and a must-see for St. Patrick’s Day. To protect his family from a leprechaun with nefarious intentions, Kyle (Ryan Merriman) (in the film) must fight for a gold charm. Even though the film first aired in 2001 on Disney Channel, it is frequently shown again around St. Patrick’s Day every year. The movie was also named “the only St. Patrick’s Day movie that matters” by Decider’s Anna Menta.
7. The Secret of Kells
The Secret of Kells, an Oscar-nominated animated picture that tells the story of Brendan (Evan McGuire), a young boy living in ancient Ireland, is another kid-friendly St. Patrick’s Day selection.
