1. The ‘burbs (1989)
Ray Peterson’s new neighbors move into the house next door, setting the stage for this story. These newcomers are bizarre; no one has ever heard of them before, and their house is a complete mess with strange noises coming from the basement at night. They only have their given name, Klopeks, to go by. When Walter (an elderly resident of the neighborhood) goes missing one day, the neighborhood begins to suspect the Klopeks.
2. Disturbia (2007)
Things start to fall apart for Kale Brecht after his father is killed in a car accident, and he ends up in jail for punching his Spanish teacher. Being bored, Kale decides to spy on his neighbors to keep himself entertained. A murder appears to be taking place in Mr. Turner’s house one night, and he witnesses it. It becomes a matter of life and death for Kale as he becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth behind these murders after several unsettling encounters with Mr. Turner. And who’s keeping an eye on whom?
3. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987)
Nancy has grown up and is now a psychiatrist who specializes in dream therapy, picking up where the original Nightmare left off. A group of children at a nearby hospital are confronted by Freddy Krueger, the same demon she once saw in her dreams. She meets with them to discuss their experiences.
They include Kristen, who has the ability to summon people from her dreams to share in them with her. With the assistance of a male doctor assigned to the case, Nancy aids the children in realizing their unique talents in their nightmares. In an attempt to put Freddy’s ghost to rest once and for all, she leads a rescue mission into Krueger’s domain when he kidnaps one of her charges.
4. The Dark Knight (2008)
Batman, Lieutenant James Gordon, and new district attorney Harvey Dent begin to successfully round up the criminals that plague Gotham City one year after the events of Batman Begins until a mysterious and sadistic criminal mastermind known only as the Joker appears in Gotham, causing a new wave of chaos.. The battle between Batman and the Joker becomes intensely personal, requiring Batman to “confront everything he believes” and improve his technology in order to defeat the villain. Bruce Wayne, Dent, and Rachel Dawes form a romantic triangle.
5. Last Action Hero (1993)
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Jack Slater, a larger-than-life action hero, is a big inspiration for Danny Madigan, a young boy. While watching a new Jack Slater movie with his best friend Nick the projectionist, Danny finds himself in a world where the good guys always win. Slater’s former assassin Benedict the hitman obtains the ticket and travels to Danny’s world, where he learns that killing Arnold Schwarzenegger will put an end to Slater’s reign of terror. Danny and Slater will have to return in time to put an end to him.
6. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
Michael Myers assassinated his sister Judith on Halloween in 1963. In 1978, he went on the run to assassinate Laurie Strode, his other sister. He assassinated her entire group of friends, but she managed to flee. A few years later, she pretended to be dead to make it impossible for him to locate her.
Fortunately, Michael has returned in 1998 with all of the paperwork he needs to track down his ex-girlfriend. He follows her to a private school, where she’s enrolled her son, John, under a different name. To finish what she started so long ago, Laurie must now go after the evil one one last time.
7. Friday The 13th Part 2 (1981)
The murders at Camp Crystal Lake left survivor Alice, who beheaded psycho killer/mother Pamela Voorhees, traumatized months later. However, there is a snag. Jason, the son of Mrs. Voorhee, was never in the water and drowned. He never died. As a result, he witnessed Alice slay Mrs. Voorhees’ head. Jason eventually locates and assassinates Alice.
After five years, Campanack Lodge launches a counselor-in-training program. It’s not far from Jason’s house. Crystal Lake Campgrounds Young people are being brutally murdered one by one as they begin to snoop around Camp Crystal Lake.
8. Friday The 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
For five years after killing Jason Voorhees, the hockey mask killer, Tommy Jarvis spent his childhood in various mental hospitals, unable to shake the nightmares of Jason’s return.
Another hockey-masked killer begins murdering residents of and around Tommy’s rural New Jersey halfway house when he is sent there as part of Tommy’s treatment for mental illness. Is Jason back from the dead and ready to resume his murder spree? Is it Tommy or someone else who has decided to take over from Jason?
9. Mr. Brooks (2007)
Entrepreneur Earl Brooks was recently honored as Portland’s Man of the Year. The Thumbprint Killer is a serial killer who preys on the elderly. His alter ego, Marshall, has reappeared after two years of attendance at AA meetings and has pushed him to commit murder once more. Someone with a death and murder fetish sees and photographs him when he kills a couple while they are having sex. It’s not the only thing going on in this story.
The detective on the case is also having issues of her own. After a tumultuous divorce, she is now being pursued by an ex-convict who had vowed revenge years earlier and has since escaped from prison.
10. Se7en (1995)
Film about the desperate search for a serial killer who justifies his crimes as absolution for the world’s ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins by two homicide detectives (Morgan Freeman (I) and Brad Pitt. As sociopathic “John Doe” (‘Kevin Spacey’ (qv)) preaches to Detectives Somerset and Mills, the film takes us from the tortured remains of one victim to the next. It’s all about gluttony in this film, which uses the dark and subdued tones of film noir to show the killer’s terrible capacity for murder.
Somerset, an experienced and well-educated but jaded detective, studies the Seven Deadly Sins to better understand the killer’s methods, while Detective Mills (Pitt), a young and naive but impulsive detective, scorns Somerset’s attempts to gain insight into the killer’s mind.
11. Shutter Island (2010)
A patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital goes missing in 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate. His personal reasons for wanting to work on the island have finally been realized. He begins to question whether he hasn’t been duped into being a pawn in the sinister scheme of a group of hospital doctors who practice extreme medicine that ranges from unethical and illegal to downright sinister in nature.
When Teddy’s investigation turns up a promising lead, the hospital denies him access to records that could help solve the mystery. As the mainland is cut off by a hurricane, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.
12. The Fugitive (1993)
Dr. Richard Kimble, a renowned Chicago surgeon, has learned that his wife Helen was brutally murdered in their own home. Kimble was apprehended by police and charged with the murder. After that, Kimble was put on trial, found guilty, and given the death penalty. Kimble’s vehicle, on the other hand, crashed on the way to prison.
Kimble has managed to elude capture and is currently on the lam. Kimble is being pursued by Chicago deputy Samuel Gerard. When Kimble finds out who killed her, he begins his own investigation, hoping to entice Gerard’s team into the case as well.
13. Home Alone (1990)
It’s the holiday season, and the McCallisters are getting ready for a trip to Paris, France. Kevin, the family’s youngest member, got into a fight with Buzz, Kevin’s older brother, and was sent to Kevin’s third-floor room as a result. Later, as the rest of the family raced to catch their flight, they completely overlooked Kevin, who was left alone in the house.
Kevin loved having pizza all to himself, jumping on his parents’ bed, and generally getting into mischief when he was home alone. Kevin then learns that two would-be burglars named Harry and Marv are planning to break into his home on the eve of Christmas. For Kevin, the only way to stop the intruders is to set up improvised booby traps throughout his house.
