SRT’s mission is to stage theatre of the highest calibre, collaborating with the best talent from around the world. In addition to its repertoire of original musicals like Forbidden City: Portrait of an Empress that was commissioned by Singapore’s 2000-seat Esplanade Theatre as part of its opening festival in 2002, the company has produced a number of critically acclaimed plays that include Into the Woods, Rent, Hamlet, They’re Playing our Song, Barefoot in the Park, Honk!, Betrayal and Art. In 1998, SRT was Associate Producer for David Henry Hwang’s Golden Child, which went on to Broadway and earned three Tony Award nominations. Artistic Director, Gaurav Kripalani has spent the past decade producing over 75 shows for SRT, including touring shows to Manila, Los Angeles and New York. SRT now has four additional divisions. These are The Little Company – which stages professional plays with adult actors, specifically for 2-12 year olds; The Young Co – a three year acting training programme for 16-24 year olds; Stage Two – a playwright incubator programme dedicated to new Singaporean work; and the DBS Arts Centre, SRT’s state-of-the-art 380 seat home. SRT staged The Woman in Black in Singapore in 2004 to sold-out houses, and is delighted to be collaborating with newtheatricals and Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, on the Australian tour.
