About the show
The Circus Oz show presents audiences with a circus that is also a playful theatrical subversion of the idea of 'circus'.
As post-modern artists Circus Oz has taken old forms and re-framed them. They have shamelessly plundered the traditions of conventional circus and blend them with topical issues, relevant imagery, contemporary music, physical theatre and comedy. At their best, Circus Oz are pirates on the high seas of performance, looting their way through the riches of hundreds of years of convention, specialisation and defined genre. Their redemption is that they can re-present what they have taken as something more. At the same time, like honourable thieves, they must have respect for what they have stolen, and from whom they have stolen it.
Circus Oz don't start with a script. The scripts are the bodies of the performers themselves. The company must either develop the skills of the performers through training, or work with the existing skills.
There are no 'stars'; rather a celebration of multi-skilled ensemble achievement. Performers engage directly with the audience in a shared experience.
